Ambulance driver struck by car dies

    The News Journal • December 22, 2008

An ambulance driver who was sideswiped by a car on the side of U.S. 13 near New Castle on Saturday night has died, fire officials said today.

Michelle Smith, a Delaware City fire company ambulance driver, was on the ground Saturday, assisting the victim of a motorcycle accident on U.S. 13 at School Lane, when both were struck by a BMW.

I sure hope they catch this murderer along with their getaway driver.

I'd love to know just what the hell is up here.

The BMW that hit them was NOT stolen. So they knew right away who it belonged to.

How can it be that hard to figure out who was driving? Something's amiss here.

Some of the comments on TNJ indicate that she has a daughter as well.

Hopefully they'll name the owner of the BMW soon so people can put pressure on that individual.

A hit and run occurred in Delco in the past year where the owner of the vehicle was identified early on but it took them months and months before they could finally get enough evidence to prove that that person was the one driving. Tips from the public helped, but they'll need to get the name out there for the public to help with this one.

I guess the driver could have been drinking, as long as he is not caught behind the wheel no DWI charge. Even if he wasn't, what a low down piece of shit he is eh? Very dangerous job these folks have, gotta love the fire service, police etc. My prayers go out to his family.

    There's details that I'm missing.

    What time did this happen?

How long was it after the collision that the driver of the BMW got into the other car?

Looks like sometime between 10pm - 11pm Saturday night.

The getaway driver must have been following right behind him if they crashed and immediately got into another car.

What she said! There's no excuse for hitting someone and leaving - NONE. For the POS to hit one down and one trying to help, then hop into a *willing* car and leave, is beyond my comprehension. Whoever was driving the getaway car and all other passengers in it are just as guilty - they went along with the murder and should be charged along with the murderer. I'm with Kid - I smell a rat.

I'm just still SHOCKED that there is another car involved...another driver who was waiting right there to grab his friend. Shocked.

We are all deeply saddened by what happened to Michelle. Delaware City was doing a cover up for Wilmington Manor at the time of the accident. There is a huge investigation going on and a lot is known that has not yet been made public. Please keep Michelle, her daughter, age 11, her other family and all the folks at the Wilmington Manor and Delaware city Fire Companies in your prayers. They are just devastated.

Re: LODD: EMT struck by car dies

This makes no sense. Even if they couldnt prove who was driving the car, they know who the owner is. Why is the owner not in jail? Even if the owner wasnt driving, they knew who was and had to have given permission to that person to use their car. I agree, something here smells like a cover-up. Very much so.

I feel horrible for the familes. I worry for all of them, but I cant even imagine how the motorcycle driver feels right now, the guilt would be overwhelming.
