It's that time of year again. Can't wait until spooky movies are on cable every night for weeks straight.

I keep hearing good things about this movie yet have never managed to see it. Literally everyone that has seen this has said it was as scary as hell. Sounds like my type of movie, not sure why I haven't seen it yet

This wasn't the thread I was thinking of. There was one for a year or two ago with a bunch of clips. Hope it wasn't one that was recently lost, it was a good one.

    Re: Scary Movies

Over the past couple of weeks I saw Drag Me to Hell and House of the Devil. Gotta love Netflix streamed over the Wii!

Drag Me to Hell was great in a campy and sometimes cheesy way, which was the intent. It doesn't take itself too seriously. It had a few moments that caught me off guard and made me jump, which is rare. Horror movies tend to be so formulaic. The dark stormy night. The dark house. The slow walk down the hall, the tense build-up, and then the surprise that you're suspecting anyway. Without giving anything away, there were scenes where people were going about everyday activities in broad daylight and insane, shocking things happen that made me jump.

House of the Devil was kind of a letdown. I'd seen a preview for it last year and expected great things from it. It's set in the very early 1980s and is very true to the style of films from that era- down to the credits and opening cinematography. One scene early on is a shocker, but most of it is a very slow buildup culminating in a ridiculous ending.

    Re: Scary Movies

Did any of you see an old movie called "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark"? Apparently it was a made-for-TV movie on ABC that originally came out in 1973. From what I've been reading, a lot of people call it one of the most frightening movies they've ever seen and it's stuck in their memories their whole life, mainly because a lot of people saw it when they were kids. Here's the original trailer, if it sparks a memory:

Anyway, Guillermo Del Toro is producing a remake that's set to come out in 2011 (once Miramax gets their shit figured out) and it's looking every bit as scary as the original. It's definitely on the top of my list for scary movies to see next year. Here's the updated movie trailer. Be sure to watch it to the end
