One of my favorite childhood Christmas movies is Dalton Trumbo's 'Our Vines Have Tender Grapes' Our Vines have Tender Grapes trailer - YouTube
Went to see Sherlock Holmes II on Christmas Day. It was really good! Nice surpise ending.
DH and I have gone to the movies every Christmas for the last 3 years and have noticed a trend. The first year we went there were maybe 3 couples other than us in the theater; the following year about 3 more couples and this year, the theater was full.....to the point where the only seats available were the 3 rows up front....good thing we got there 30 minutes before the show to get our seats. Sign of the times maybe? There were a lot of families with older children there, maybe new family traditions blooming?
We go because our kids are older and spend Christmas day with thier fathers families, with friends or just with eachother.....we spend Christmas Eve together and let everyond do thier own thing Christmas day, that way Dad and I get a nice peaceful Christmas day.

I watched The Adjustment Bureau this morning with Matt Damon and Emily Blunt. I remember when it was out in theaters and I thought it looked interesting. It's been On Demand on HBO for a couple of weeks now.
Essentially, a man discovers that parts of our lives are controlled and adjusted by a mysterious group of men (and presumably women, although none were shown) in order to ensure the balance of the world and the existence of the planet. Matt Damon's character is a politician who falls in love with a woman only to discover she's not part of his plan and the bureau will do everything they can to keep them apart. Cool concept, and at one point Matt Damon's character talks to one of the "adjusters" about why the need to exist. The adjuster cites different times in history where the "chairman" decided to let free will rule and the atrocities that resulted - the Dark Ages, WWI and II, the Holocaust, etc.
It was good. It reminded me a lot of Vanilla Sky. The plots weren't the same and it was a lot less cerebral, but it was entertaining. It made me think a lot about change and coincidence and the simple things that all need to happen just so to make our lives play out as they do. Ever wonder what would have happened if you decided not to go out the night you met your spouse or to apply for a job that turned out to be your career? Are all our paths simply means to the same end, or is it all free will?
My beef is that I think some plot points could have been better explained, and that doing so would have added to the film. I'm also really nitpicky about movies - I'll suspend disbelief when it comes to a lot of things, but characters and their actions need to make sense. There was a moment early on when Matt and Emily's characters meet - on election night, always a Tuesday, and she was supposedly in the building crashing a wedding. On a Tuesday night?
Anyway, worth the watch, especially on demand!
never heard of it, but it was on tv the other day and it was pretty good
America is an idea, but it's an idea that brings with it some baggage, like power brings responsibility. It's an idea that brings with it equality, but equality even though it's the highest calling, is the hardest to reach. The idea that anything is possible, that's one of the reasons why I'm a fan of America. - Bono, Commencement University of Pennsylvania May 17, 2004
The Devil Inside
Surprisingly, this movie destroyed the box office this weekend! I say surprisingly, because it's really not that good. It actually started off really good, with a very interesting premise, but around three quarters in really starts to take a turn for the bad, both in story and acting. And the ending is possibly one of the worst endings I have seen in any movie, period. I really can't recommend it unless you are a die hard horror movie fan, and even then, it's iffy. It's also really not that scary, especially considering the disturbing subject matter.

Very interesting. 50% of all food produced in this country is thrown out. It's on Netflix streaming. It sounded disgusting at first but the key words are "sell by" dates.
Not saying I would do it, but cool, and good for them. I do agree though, that food could go to someone who really does need it.

David Fincher's remake/adaptation is one of the best movies of the year. It's not often that seeing a movie prompts me to want to read a book, but that's exactly what this did. The story is clever and the characters extremely interesting. And can I say Trent Reznor knows how to score a David Fincher soundtrack...again. His score is haunting and epic, which even my monaural-hearing ass could appreciateThe only bad thing? Having to wait nearly two years for Fincher's adaptation of the next book in the series.

Cowboys and Aliens.Although I'm not sure a lot of viewers got the spoofing of other such films, I enjoyed it.

It's pretty rare that a film can make you laugh hysterically, and cry, during the course of it. This is one of those rare films.
