    Free kitten

I found this little fella outside in the parking lot around noon today.

He's definitely male, a gray tiger tabby about 10 weeks old - very likely the littermate of another we found in the back yard last month but were unable to save. Unlike the poor, deceased black kitty, this one is apparently in good health. He's also extremely affectionate with people. In fact, he refuses to be left in a crate: he wants lap time, and HOW. He's quite vocal about not liking to be boxed in (blame my husband: he felt the kitten was feeling cold in here and was holding it all afternoon, the softy).

We really can't keep him, not with three other cats -not to mention the big male weighs about 25 lbs!- and a dog already in the house. In addition, my father-in-law will pitch a fit if we try. FiL doesn't even know he's in the house right now.....

I'm going to give him a bath tomorrow to get rid of as many fleas and dirt as possible. He's definitely going to need shots, deworming and neutering.

Won't someone please take him home? The shelters are all at capacity and then some...

    NO FAIR posting the picture!!!

If I was sure my dog and other cat wouldn't eat it I'd consider. The only one who would accept it would be Murray...or of course Lily would take it in as a chew toy.

Bummer, no can do. We have reached our pet quota. The soft spot in my head opened and closed two weeks ago. Little bugger looks like my baby that died three years ago.

Sorry, I'm out of the kitten business. After Boo, I don't think I could take another in and let it go. Also, the three girls might take issue...

So... no takers? Come on, people!

Jessica: I tried yesterday afternoon, they said they're full.

Honestly, if it wasn't because neither Angel nor Tommy like him he could stay. Angel wants nothing more than to be an only cat, and Tommy could kill the kitten just by sitting on him, T's that big. Patch seems to not mind his presence - but he hasn't been checking the little one out, either.

I would take him but I am not quite ready to be divorced just yet.

Even though I have wanted a cat for like a year now. Wah!

No cat on this earth immediately likes another. They all need time to get used to each other. Give 'em some time.

As for shots and "fixing him" there are low/no cost options out there...

I know... but it's been two years or more and Angel still freaks out at Tommy getting near...

    Re: Free kitten

    Update on kitten:

My father-in-law finally found out about the kitten and has no problem with us caring for him a while, but we really have to find him a forever home. Meanwhile, his stay here seems to be helping him build socialization skills relative to other animals. We did have the pleasant surprise of him being willing and even eager to use a litter box.

He's been out of the crate and about the house today, trying to figure out the others. The dog is the one that seems to worry/fascinate him the most... his previous experience with dogs was probably all negative, because he still seems surprised that Max hasn't even tried to go after him.

Tommy hisses at kitten, kitten hisses back, Tommy scampers away. A 25 lb cat running away from a kitten that weighs maybe 20 ounces is funny. I guess Tommy doesn't know how to deal with him. He's too used to being able to bully Patch.

Patch tends to either not pay much attention to the kitten, or will hiss back if kitten hisses aggressive/defensively. I think Patch doesn't mind the kitten being around except for that. Hell, he might even be wanting to play.

Angel wants nothing more than to be an only cat (Max is ok with her) so she is of course hostile to the others. The kitten seems to get a little more tolerance, especially when he's in the crate. Maybe his small size makes him less of a threat, I don't know.

Please, people, there has to be some way of finding him a home, he deserves better and we can't keep him; it's not Chris and my house so if the in-laws say no, it's no.

Sorry PG, but with the situation that I'm in I can't take the kitten or else I would. I have to find a place for my own doggie, and my daughter is torn up about that.
    I wish you luck!!!

Took a trip down Memory Lane, found this thread.

For those not in the know, we did keep the kitten after all, named him Guy, and saw him grow to over 20 lbs. I'll ask Chris for a recent picture.

If anyone here finds a kitten....like a fresh one (eyes closed, abandoned, tiny) let me know. I want a kitten and I'm real good at nursing them back to health when abandoned. Only problem is I only like FEMALE's. Sorry boy kitties.

It's been 6 months since my cat died (I raised her when a fox got her litter and she survived... just .7 ounces at the time) so I'm ready to open my home to a new one.

Cat sexist you know that neutering solves pretty much all the problems associated with boy-cat-ness?

Check with the local shelters, they're always in need of fosters, especially now that the weather is getting warmer and most litters are about to be born.

That's funny Hockey......I prefer a male cat, but a female dog. All the female cats we've had are just too prissy for me. We had to put our little girl to sleep almost 2 months ago now. I just told hubby I'd really love a ragdoll cat (rescue) for Mother's day. Great minds think a like. lol

Every boy cat I've ever had came with issues of some form or another while every girl cat I ever had was sweet, smart and hard workers. Maybe it's just my family??

Well, since you like 'em young... no, wait, that came out wrong!

Since you want to pretty much bottle-raise one, I'd think your socializing them from such an early age would result in a boy cat that behaves more to your liking.

On the other hand, it probably is your family
