    Colombian hostage rescue

I guess everyone heard about this hostage rescue in Colombia? Crazy. That rebel group there.... after a while, do they even remember what they are fighting for? They've been trying to overthrow the Colombian government for 40 years...all they do is kidnap people. Either give the f*ck up, or get another plan. Stupid idiots. I was in Colombia last year.... don't think I'll be going back!

BOGOTA, Colombia (CNN) -- Secret agents posing as leftist rebels hoodwinked insurgents and freed 15 hostages from the jungles of Colombia by pretending an "international mission" was on its way to visit the hostages, authorities in Colombia say.

My only problem is they are telling everyone how they did it, so they won't be able to use this tactic again. Kinda sucks since it worked so well....

Sometimes I feel just like Sharpay from High School Musical....
"Don't you see that bigger is better and better is bigger. A little bit is never enough!!! No! No! No! I want it all!"

Some people choose to remain in the past with life, love and happiness; never really exploring the opportunity of a new day. To those I say: Build a bridge, Get over it, and Move on. A new life awaits you just around the bend....

Fool me once, shame on you...fool me...fool...we won't get fooled again!

Yeah, you're right. Plus with all the hoopla about them being free and some of the statements being made about how the rebels are such shitbirds.... that can't be good for the hostages left behind. They got some angrier rebels to deal with now.

However, if this plan worked, than the rebels are certainly susceptible to bouts of stupidity.

They're not rebels rebels have popular support in at least the areas they operate in.

According to Merriam-Wesbter online a rebel is someone who is "opposing or taking arms against a government or ruler" (rebel - Definition from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary) or one who takes part in rebellion, which is defined as:

1: opposition to one in authority or dominance
2 a: open, armed, and usually unsuccessful defiance of or resistance to an established government b: an instance of such defiance or resistance

(rebellion - Definition from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary)

So, yes, by definition, they are rebels.

And, by definition, they are terrorists as well. Terrorism is defined as "the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion" (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/terrorist)

The two terms are not mutually exclusive.

    True, in the dictionary sense.

In public perception, however, there is a difference.

Really? I guess it depends upon the region in which you were raised. I never thought there was any moral implication to the word at all. A rebel was someone who rebelled against the establishment... supported by popular opinion or not.

This is not a rebel song....this Nicole Kidman's stupid kid.

America is an idea, but it's an idea that brings with it some baggage, like power brings responsibility. It's an idea that brings with it equality, but equality even though it's the highest calling, is the hardest to reach. The idea that anything is possible, that's one of the reasons why I'm a fan of America. - Bono, Commencement University of Pennsylvania May 17, 2004
