It is difficult to see past the negative, but if you only think of and look for negative, that is all you will see. He is alive, that alone is a prayer answered. And paralysis is not the end of the world. There are so many more things he could be other than paralyzed.
Just take it one day at a time and thank God for every small little blessing. He maybe on machines for a little while to help him out while his body adjusts and he heals. While its frightening and painful to see remember those machines are helping him and without them, he may not still be with you. He may have lost mobility, but you have not lost your friend, he still has a life. You can still talk to him and hug him and spend time with him, he is alive and not dead. That alone is a blessing.

To put everything that is happening down on paper (ok MS Word), then I post it here or in a blog or both. Sometimes, it's soothing and like releasing poison.
