Not me. That mess is turning into another Italian Festival. Somebody's gonna get killed (or pull a Darwin) over there one of these years.

From what I hear they are toning it down a lot this year. They were actually thinking of calling the whole thing off altogether, but I guess they are giving it a last go around.

It always looks like so much fun, but I've never been down there.

Are they gonna tone it down? I wonder how they're planning on that. (Honestly wondering, not being a smart ass.)

I got dragged down there one year with the company I worked for, sort of a "Participation makes up half of your grade," kind of BS. And the entire time I was hoping the big guy drunkenly swaggered off the side of the boat and broke his neck hitting the bottom for pulling that BS. I snuck away. The next guy who yelled "Show me your titties!" was going to get a beer bottle upside his head.

This year they had to pick it to be on my daughter's b-day so I don't know if I will go this year or not

*Even though my daughter's b-day party is on Sunday...

    Re: Canal Day

Last year there were over 400 boats there.

My buddy brought his 38ft. Scarab and couldn't get it out of the cove till 3 days after the event because of the crowds.

From what I understand they are regulating the amount of boats down to 200 and there will be water Police somehow enforcing it.

Once again I have my daughter

But my cousin is having a huge party for my Aunt's 60th b-day so I wouldn't be going anyway.

I hope everyone has a blast!

Crowd Incident Leads To Canal Day Arrests

An unruly crowd of more than 100 marred an otherwise calm and quiet Canal Day festival in Chesapeake City, Md., police said.

Lt. Bernard Chiominto of the Cecil County (Md.) Sheriff's Office said three people were arrested and charged with resisting arrest, assault on a police officer and disorderly conduct at the end of the day.

At least two officers and one suspect were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.

One suspect also kicked out the window of a patrol car and officers called for backup from nearby police agencies, including Maryland state police, New Castle County police and Middletown police.

Tellin' you man. Somebody's gonna get killed one of these years.

The crowd refused to move out of the way for deputies and to let traffic pass, said Chiominto, and the crowd became hostile and "verbally abusive" to police.

You start getting crowds of 100 becoming hostile to police officers.. and that's when you know it's time to stop. That's too close to a riot for my comfort zone. There's no way all of those people were intimately involved with the incident, they were just being that way because there was a lot of them, and because of the alcohol involved.

crowds of drunk ass people driving boats....nah, I'm too old for that shit

America is an idea, but it's an idea that brings with it some baggage, like power brings responsibility. It's an idea that brings with it equality, but equality even though it's the highest calling, is the hardest to reach. The idea that anything is possible, that's one of the reasons why I'm a fan of America. - Bono, Commencement University of Pennsylvania May 17, 2004
