A friend at mine at work told me that cilantro is famous for tasting like dish detergent...it doesn't taste like that to me...have y'all heard of that?

America is an idea, but it's an idea that brings with it some baggage, like power brings responsibility. It's an idea that brings with it equality, but equality even though it's the highest calling, is the hardest to reach. The idea that anything is possible, that's one of the reasons why I'm a fan of America. - Bono, Commencement University of Pennsylvania May 17, 2004

I can't say I've eaten much dish detergent, but I do grow cilantro every summer and I've never had any taste soapy.
DCG: I grow cilantro all the time and never had it tasting like dish detergent. Did your co-worker spill some near the plants while they were seedlings??? Just asking!
Waiting for the first snowflake to fall!!!
lol...nah, she said it's famous for that.
Crabby....Max doesn't know what you're talking about because he has me on ignore. (just in case you're confused)

cutting banana trees down this weekend

Bump!
Its time for seed catalogs![]()
I cannot believe I still have Mexican sage GROWING in the garden......
WOOT! come on spring, I need warm weather so I can expand the garden!
Okay - I have a question.
I have a Hibiscus bush (dog dug a hole, I decided rather than get mad, I would put the hole to use - bush was on sale). I read up on it and found that I am not to cut it down in the fall/winter, but to wait until spring to cut the dead off to protect the plant.
How long will it take this thing to reach its full, beautiful, blooming potential again once it is cut in the spring?
Don't spread my wealth - spread my work ethic!!!!!
Yeah - I see September for pruning, but hibiscus is a warmer climate (Hawaii) plant and our September vs. Hawaii's September... well - you see what I mean? September is the hottest month of the year in Hawaii, and I don't think it ever gets cold down there.
Plus - in September that thing was putting out an abundance of blooms! I just hope that it will survive the winter... Or, I will have to get another one and try again. Maybe keep it in a large planter and bring it in for the winter.
Don't spread my wealth - spread my work ethic!!!!!
Can't wait for 'Maters Max!!! You've spoiled me.![]()
W~
Unpacked my bags, setting up housekeeping...think I'm here to stay.
We did a couple gallons of homemade tom. sauce. nothing like it. I love doing that. We are expanding our garden this year, cant wait. I want to do some herbs this year. you can bring them in during the winter and they do have a nice aroma. I have chives that grow in my yard, I cut them when they r done blooming around june, and freeze them two. I love gardening. great stress relief. Just rip and tug and grunt at all those weeds to pull, and walla!, You feel so much better. lol![]()
I actually have to go container only for the begining this year because I'll be moving in May. I just really hope wherever I end up has a decent garden or spot for a garden.
HarleyMama we use to plant in containers only in our last house. The best sun was in the front yard and I refused to dig up the beds to plant veggies! So we used containers and had the best luck with tomatoes, peppers and herbs.
Now we have a big back yard to plant in. I think we may expand it this year and grow even more stuff.
