I like burning bushes also, (I have two) but they have been declared an invasive non native pest and are being discouraged now. Same with buddleia (butterfy bush). Keep an eye out and control the babies.
You know, I overheard something like that while I was buying them. The guy from Home Depot was talking about them to another customer. I assumed he was full of it. Guess not.
I figured if I just keep them pruned I can control them. Are the babies shoots from the ground or from seed?

Mostly from seed, but the whole bush will get a bit bigger by root spread.
I'm going to post pics of my yard later, and you guys need to give me a opint by point plan on how to fix this mess.....lol with details, im horrible in the gardening department![]()
LMAO, i do have the white rocks on a little garden part next to the driveway.....lololol
Wow Curly, we never had any problems getting hummingbirds at our feeders. We just put out nectar feeders and they showed up. In flocks. There were so many, there were TOO many for their comfort level and they ended up having pitched aerial battles around the feeders all summer long. (Really cool to watch, if you can keep your eyes on them.)

We have them every year too. In fact I was a little late last year and the one male was flying around the window looking in, so I stopped what I was doing and put the feeder out and he went right to it. The males show up first and they are very territorial. We'll probably get some migrating through fairly soon, if it warms up some. They sure are fun to watch. Be patient Curly, once they find you they'll keep coming. Try planting some red petunias or red salvia near the feeder, that might help too.
so i got these azeala's in my front yard. the ones in front the porch are small, like 2' tall and the most. The ones against the house are huge like 5' tall. Can i trim these bushes down to 2' like the rest and they will be ok and stay alive?
and here are some pics.....

Nice azealas, but I don't know much about the. Maybe other members can help you...BUT you do need to put some grass seed down, LOL
Waiting for the first snowflake to fall!!!
I forgot about this thread, Hope and I spent all last Saturday planting and cleaning up our flower garden. The last two summers we were always at the mountain house so we kinda let the garden here go to hell. The neighbors were very happy we worked on it. Tonight I will take some pictures and put them in here.![]()
yeah i actually hired tru-green to come out for a few applications of stuff for the trees bushes grass weeds etc.
what i want to do other then that is do all the edging around the inside of the garden toward the grass to define all that and clean it up. i also want to redo the edging on the driveway side with something, maybe bricks, and redo some of the flowers and put new mulch down.

Azaleas don't mind being pruned somewhat to reshape them, but don't butcher them too much. Do the pruning shortly after blooming, as next year's blooms form on this summer's growth. Some mulch is good too if they are in a dry area. They hate wet feet though. From your photo I'd say some shaping is all they really need. Very pretty colors.
Good morning folks,

Summer Squash= 45 lbs so far and more coming
Corn= 12 big yellow ears so far
Tomatoes= a lot of big green ones but no red so far
cherry tomatoes= handfuls

Banana trees may produce this year, but I think next year will be better.
Getting ready to pick grapes and make jelly.
How is everyones gardens doing?
sucky, thanks for asking. But then again I guess some time and attention would have helped it out some. I really just dropped the ball and figured I'd rely on roadside stands.
W~
Unpacked my bags, setting up housekeeping...think I'm here to stay.
WOW Max, you really kept up on your garden. Thanks for the update.
When I went on vacation everything dried up. I'm with Wendy on helping out our local produce stands and buy from them. Oh, I did plant some Cilantro (Spanish herb), and it is growing beautifully. I have already used some in my chicken stew I made, yum-yum.
Waiting for the first snowflake to fall!!!

Peas are done, lettuce is done for now. Green beans need to be replanted soon. Squash and cukes are feeding the neighborhood. Lots of grape toms, almost have big ones. Cilantro, basils, oregano, catnip, sage etc. doing well. Several kinds of peppers are good too. A ground hog ate the cantalope (GRRR)
Planted Spinach and Mustard greens this past weekend, will be cutting brussel sprouts this fall new beens are coming on, more late season corn it looks like and I'm still pickin squash
woot its been a great summer for the garden.
I wonder how much I really saved when I add in the water I used and my time etc....
