MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- Hurricane Lorenzo has made landfall along the east-central coast of Mexico with winds near 80 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

"Preparations to protect life and property should have already been completed," forecasters said.
The storm was expected to rapidly weaken as it moved inland, forecasters said.
As of 2 a.m. ET, the center of Lorenzo was about 40 miles (65 km) south-southeast of Tuxpan, Mexico, and maximum sustained winds were near 80 mph (130 km/h) with stronger gusts.
The storm was moving west at near 8 mph (13 km/h) and was expected to continue on that course.
The Category 1 storm was upgraded from a tropical depression to a tropical storm at 2 p.m. ET Thursday after days of strengthening.

I SO envy Ace right now. He's down in my old stomping grounds a little bit away from where I used to live.
The winter we moved here 99-2000, was like this: It started snowing right before Thanksgiving. Dumped about three feet in about three days. 6-10 foot drifts. Hell of a blizzard. School was closed almost until Xmas break. Then there was a SLIGHT thaw, and just enough rain right before it FROZE again, and then, we had deep snow, with thick ice on top. THEN is started snowing again. A lot. Schools were closed from right before Xmas break until the end of January.
At that time, me and the boys lived on the side of amountian, in a log cabin, with a wrap around porch, wood-burning fireplace and hell-of-a-blue-ridge-view. If I had owned the house, I'd probably still be there.
Then we moved here, came striaght from all that snow, to no snow and a month long rain storm.
I miss winter in the mountains, I miss being snowed in.
Models are showing a good snowstorm a week from now.
But as models go, it shows snow now and then it becomes rain.![]()

STEELE, N.D. (AP) - Paul Smokov doesn't need radar or other high-tech equipment to forecast a major snowstorm on the prairie. He consults pig spleens.
"It looks like a normal year with no major storms," said the 84-year-old Smokov, peering at two of the brown, glistening, foot-long organs on his kitchen counter like a Gypsy gazing into a crystal ball. "That's what the spleens tell me."
Smokov and his wife, Betty, raise cattle on their 1,750-acre ranch north of this town of about 760 people. He is happy to share his forecast with his neighbors or anyone else willing to rely on the reading of animals' innards. If the spleen is wide where it attaches to the pig's stomach and then narrows, it means winter weather will come early with a mild spring, Smokov said. A narrow-to-wider spleen usually means harsh weather in the spring, he said.

OK all you weathermen out there - what do you have to say about this?![]()
Pants! Because no one wants to see your junk but airport security...
Does he eat the spleen for good luck once he's read it???

"Don't you see that bigger is better and better is bigger. A little bit is never enough!!! No! No! No! I want it all!"
Some people choose to remain in the past with life, love and happiness; never really exploring the opportunity of a new day. To those I say: Build a bridge, Get over it, and Move on. A new life awaits you just around the bend....
I know this is TalkDELAWARE but since so many of you care about me and my well-being (), I thought i'd let you know that at least for tonight i'll be sharing in some of the wintry cold you guys have had to deal with all winter. I've lived down here so long now that my blood's thinned to the point that i've been wrapped up like a mummy all day trying to stay warm. And it's only going to get worse:
A Hard Freeze Warning is in effect for Pasco, Hernando, Citrus, Levy, Sumter, Hillsborough, Polk, Hardee, De Soto, Manatee, Highlands and Sarasota Counties from 10 p.m through 9 a.m. Thursday. Temperatures are expected to plummet after sunset. Sub-freezing temperatures with a duration of 6 to 8 hours are expected in the Hard Freeze Warning area.
Pinellas County is under a Freeze Warning from 1 a.m. until 9 a.m. Thursday. Temperatures are expected to get into the lower 30s away from the coast with durations of sub-freezing temperatures for 2 to 4 hours overnnight.
Much colder and drier air continues to drain southward through West Central and Southwest Florida.
The last big freeze in Tampa was January 24, 2005. The last freeze in St. Petersburg was January 24, 2003. Temps will moderate by the weekend with lows back into the 50s and highs in the 70s.
And the funny thing is that last week I posted a snarky comment on the heating-bill thread saying you guys should move south since I hadn't turned my heat on in like a year....Now i'm eating those words. LOL.
TAMPA BAY -- The coldest weather in four years is expected to settle into the Bay area tonight.
A Freeze Warning and Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for the entire Tampa Bay area.
A low of 29 is expected tonight in the metropolitan Tampa area. A Hard Freeze Warning, meaning even colder temperatures, is forecast for tonight in Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus counties. Strong winds will make the air feel even colder.
Shelters are open in Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco Counties for the homeless and for those who are unable to heat their homes.
Residents are advised to bring in their pets and make preparations to protect tender vegetation.

Does that mean no oranges RS?
America is an idea, but it's an idea that brings with it some baggage, like power brings responsibility. It's an idea that brings with it equality, but equality even though it's the highest calling, is the hardest to reach. The idea that anything is possible, that's one of the reasons why I'm a fan of America. - Bono, Commencement University of Pennsylvania May 17, 2004
Well I'll be in Tampa on Monday so i'm glad to hear the temperatures are a little cooler than the last time I was down. I was down a couple weeks in December and a couple of the days it was close to 90.
From what I understand the citrus and strawberry crops are being impacted by the cold but how much damage I have no idea.....As long as i can find them at the grocery store that's all i care about. And so far, they're still there![]()
This cold snap is extremely unusual for us. By the time you get here temps will be back to normal (mid to upper 70's in the daytime, mid to upper 50's at night).
