Well they canceled the I-95 closure... cranes and wind don't get on well.
So.... I-95 is open for this weekend.
Now.... the big question..... do I go grocery shopping? Fridays are my normal shopping but I didn't get home until late. This means I go some time today and face crowds and empty shelves or it's take away and canned foods for meals.
Anyone been to the stores today? Is anything left?
Hockey- hubby was at the store earlier this morning and everything was okay. Busy, but stocked.
We've got water, canned goods, snacks, beer, candles, and batteries. Put all the deck furniture in the shed, secured the kids playhouses, cleaned out the gutters, bought beer. Last loads of laundry in now and I'm charging up everything that can be charged. We don't have a generator, but in the six years I've lived here we've only lost power during a storm one time. I know this is a different kind of storm, but we'll have to make due if the power craps out.
I'm a little surprised we don't have a state of emergency yet since all the neighboring states do. As of 20 minutes ago, projected landfall was around Fenwick Island. If this thing does what they're saying it's going to do, I think it makes more sense to let people know that schools are closed and certain restrictions or evacuations are in place before we start losing power.

I know Charter is already closed - they made the announcement on Friday.
We can hold off on the driving restrictions until 3:00 am Monday morning, though. I feel better knowing Wawa is still a legal option.![]()

Red Clay closed Monday and Tuesday. Just got the call.
Brandywine also closed Monday and Tuesday. No call on Christina yet.
Also, there is not a D battery on the shelf in NCCo
Christina is closed Monday and Tuesday as well.
Gas gouging is in full effect - the first station we stopped at was sold out of regular and plus at $3.45. The next had it - for $3.52. Luckily we only needed less than a quarter tank. Better safe than sorry.
I was wondering the same thing. Our state of emergency has levels but they always seem to issue it when they truly expect all non essential businesses to close and all non essential people to stay home except emergencies.
Perhaps NJ, DC, MD, PA, NY use the levels and allow for people to travel?
Colonial is closed on Monday and Tuesday too....
Believe it or not, I didn't get the kids their Halloween costumes yet, so we ventured out to the Middletown Walmart today....it really wasn't that bad and they were fully stocked.
America is an idea, but it's an idea that brings with it some baggage, like power brings responsibility. It's an idea that brings with it equality, but equality even though it's the highest calling, is the hardest to reach. The idea that anything is possible, that's one of the reasons why I'm a fan of America. - Bono, Commencement University of Pennsylvania May 17, 2004
I worded my statement incorrectly - the station I mentioned at $3.52 was at $3.45 the evening before. Not exactly gouging, and for all I know they could have been at $3.52 before the station down the street ran out. It just seemed a little weird is all...
We of course have been watching the Weather Channel constantly. Saturday several area states had declared emergencies and Delaware had not. When I mentioned this at work one of the other employees pointed out Rehoboth would lose too much money if they called it before the end of the Saturday Sea Witch activities. She was right Markel called it after the parade.

Nor’easter May Be Next for New England
As steps toward recovery slowly progress in the wake of Sandy, another storm may soon be hitting the East Coast in time for Election Day.
The National Weather Service’s Prediction Center issued a warning for a possible nor’easter, which may hit the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions as early as next Tuesday.
While the storm is not anticipated to be as destructive as Sandy, the prediction center anticipated the storm will “cause light to moderate precipitation around that region of the country” and “produce impacts much less extreme.”
The Washington Post reports that the European Centre Medium Range Forecast (EURO) model, which tracked Sandy over a week before it hit, shows a simulation of the storm that will bring moderate rains and gusty winds in many of the same areas ravaged by the superstorm.
The impending storm may possibly delay the recuperation efforts of both New York and New Jersey.
