Hurricane Sandy Impacts Punkin Chunkin

BRIDGEVILLE, Del.- There will be one less day of flying pumpkins this year at the 2012 Punkin Chunkin in Bridgeville. Event organizers are reducing the chunk by one day due to muddy fields caused by up to 8 inches of rain from Hurricane Sandy.
In the words of event organizer Frank Shade, "We are doing it old school, just like we used to."

Shade said the decision came down to safety. By delaying Punkin Chunkin by one day, they are giving the fields extra time to dry out before crowding them with patrons.
Vendors, musical acts, entertainment and campers will be allowed to set up on Friday. The public will be allowed to watch the teams set up free of charge.

Advanced Ticket holders for Friday will be honored on either Saturday or Sunday.
