Hurricane Sandy Is Coming! Ready Delaware?

Hurricane Sandy is coming to Delaware! According to the latest models we have the potential to really get hit.

So what are you doing, if anything to prepare?

    ------------------------------
I am going to spend tonight at the market and making sure that I got food that I can eat in case the power goes out (happens often around here) and making sure that I have batteries and candles.

Tomorrow I will cut the grass and clean out or inspect the rain gutters and then securing the small planters and flower pots that I have so that they dont fly away as well as take in the bird feeders so that they don't fly away.

I am going to pack the coolers with ice, just in case, make sure cars are gassed up, cell phones and kids electronics are charged and I am pretty much ready.

I am also going to check the few storm drains around my house on my street to make sure that they are clear so that the rain drains quickly too.

I got my supply of comic books ready to read!

What have you done to get ready

I'll be spending the next few days filling plastic containers with water and making ice to pack my freezer.

And then I will be filling a cooler with beer and ice and hoping for an extra day or two off from work.

(sigh) I don't want to go anywhere NEAR a grocery store this weekend, but I ran out of coffee this morning. (sigh)

I gassed up for the generator and I made sure my saws are sharp. Bought some extra water and beer.

With the actual path uncertain we are really sweating it. If it's really bad wife, son and myself could stay in the hotel where I work but don't want to leave dogs alone on in car in hotel parking lot. Dogs are a Hugh no/no in our hotel.

Bottled water, baby formula, kerosine for the heater, and of course beer.

We used to go to Rehoboth Fire Station for evacuations. They allowed dogs and we had immediate reports on everything. Don't leave the animals in a car. There are places that accept pets.

Hurricane Belle was one of my earliest memories.... good stuff.

Fortunately I work in a hotel with a generator. Great owners no problem staying there during blizzards and hurricanes .

Except the problem that they don't allow your pets. I know that is a huge concern of mine.

Water, full tanks of propane, flashlights, plenty of batteries, weather radio and prepared for a long duration without power. Camper is out back and runs on 12 volts and propane including the fridge. Food runs out? I'll be forced to eat the cat. Pets can be beneficial in a crisis. Man, I've been watching to much Walking Dead.

No saws or generator here but I did get extra beer and ammo. You ain't taken my supplies or my bug-out bag. lol

Good luck everybody, something tells me this will be one to remember.

So much going on on TV I can't watch the screen, On our CBS channel in addition to the sound and video there are three column of closings and breaking news streaking across the bottom of the screen. Watch this for a while and get a head ache.
