Del. Extends Black Sea Bass Fishing Season

INDIAN RIVER INLET, Del. - Delaware fishermen will have more time to reel in black sea bass.
Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Secretary Collin O'Mara signed an order extending the recreational fishing season for black sea bass by more than 60 days.
The move will add several days of fishing in October and open the season during the entire months of January and February, which were previously closed.
"It's a very popular recreational fish," said John Clark, DNREC fisheries administrator. "Having more days to catch them should be great for the recreational fishermen and it should be good for the businesses that cater to recreational fishermen."
The state and federal fishing seasons will now be on the same schedule, which should eliminate confusion among anglers, Clark said. DNREC said most black sea bass are caught in federal waters.
"The last thing you want is people who are confused," said fisherman John Bear, who spent the day at the Indian River Inlet. "They don't know when they can keep the fish, when they can't keep the fish."
When it comes to fish, the black sea bass is considered one of the state's most popular catches, Clark said.
"Those and the tau tog like I have here are the best tasting fish here," said fisherman Bob Wichecki.
The changes are set to take effect Oct. 11. While the seasons have changed, the size limits on fish that can be kept remain the same, Clark said.
