CAMDEN-WYOMING, Del- The Caesar Rodney School District is in shock and the community is in mourning after the death of a ten year old Simpson Elementary student.
Parents and staff at the elementary school are still trying to process Thursday morning's apparent suicide.
"I don't know that ten is necessarily a super common age for suicide, but it does occur," said Malia Boone, a suicide prevention coordinator.
The school brought in more than a dozen counselors to help the students, but the district is also asking for parents to monitor their children and make sure they are ok.
"A lot of kids become afraid or have questions and some of them aren't able to voice their questions so we rely on the parents to be able to talk to them about that, while we take care of them at school," said Kristie Spangler, a school psychologist in the district.
Boone says the next few weeks are critical for children's well-being.
"If you notice a child that is maybe having a harder time for maybe a week or two, you want to definitely follow up with that child's parent and make sure they're seeking out further help."
