Community Mourns Apparent Suicide of 10 year old Boy

CAMDEN-WYOMING, Del- The Caesar Rodney School District is in shock and the community is in mourning after the death of a ten year old Simpson Elementary student.
Parents and staff at the elementary school are still trying to process Thursday morning's apparent suicide.
"I don't know that ten is necessarily a super common age for suicide, but it does occur," said Malia Boone, a suicide prevention coordinator.
The school brought in more than a dozen counselors to help the students, but the district is also asking for parents to monitor their children and make sure they are ok.
"A lot of kids become afraid or have questions and some of them aren't able to voice their questions so we rely on the parents to be able to talk to them about that, while we take care of them at school," said Kristie Spangler, a school psychologist in the district.
Boone says the next few weeks are critical for children's well-being.
"If you notice a child that is maybe having a harder time for maybe a week or two, you want to definitely follow up with that child's parent and make sure they're seeking out further help."

This is terrible. I can't get my head around this at all. I feel so sorry for the family, friends, school, community.... everyone who knew him. RIP young man.

With all the awful things wrong with this world... nothing is worse than a child who feels so lost and in so much pain that they would take their own life.

We need to look at ourselves as role models, we need to remind children that there is always another way. There should be safe places for kids where no questions are asked but if they want to talk, someone will be there. Kids are afraid of the police, afraid of churches, afraid of neighbors, afraid of asking for help and being different.... we've drilled all this into them without giving them another option. I'm not saying it would have helped this child... I don't know the situation.

Why do I feel like society is, at least somewhat, responsible? Am I wrong? I want to be wrong.

What a shame, Does anyone know why this little boy did this?

Oh dear God. How incredibly sad!! 10 years old. I just can't imagine. My heart goes out to his family.
You can only make a mistake once. After that it's a choice.
