Dagsboro junior firefighter dies in crash
Loss is first in department's 69-year historyThe Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its junior firefighter members, who was killed in a motor vehicle accident Sept. 27 while responding to a woods fire. The loss is the first line-of-duty death for the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department in its 69-year history.
At approximately 5:12 p.m., the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for an outside fire in a wooded area on East Clogg Drive just outside town limits. While en route to Station 73 in a personal vehicle, an unnamed 17-year-old junior firefighter member was fatally injured in a motor vehicle crash on Pepper Road, in the area of Jay Patch Road, said public information officer Matt Gajdos.
No details of the accident are available at this time. The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is conducting an investigation, and will release further details and the identity of the fallen firefighter.
The Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department is currently out of service. All emergency calls in the Dagsboro fire district will be answered by neighboring fire departments that are standing by at Station 73.

Re: Dagsboro junior firefighter dies in crash
Speeding and dying for woods on fire? This was avoidable and it's a sin.
This kind of crap happens more than you think especially for the volunteers. We teach it all the time, slow the fuck down! We're no good to anybody if we don't get there. The poor kid wasn't even driving.

Police investigation revealed that due to excessive speed, Mr. Morton lost control the pickup on a curve. The vehicle spun, slid off the road and struck a telephone pole before overturning, crushing the roof into the passenger side compartment, Cpl. Fournier said.
