Re: Beer, beer and more beer related things

CBST. LOUIS Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD) said Tuesday that is introducing a new specialty beer - an amber lager with a higher alcohol content - and will promote its new brew with a Super Bowl ad.
The maker of Budweiser, Bud Light and other brews will launch Budweiser Black Crown with a 30-second ad on Feb. 3 during Super Bowl 47, though the beer will be available in stores nationwide starting Jan. 21. It will be sold in 12-ounce glass bottles in six- and 12-packs, and in 22-ounce single bottles.
The maker of Budweiser, Bud Light and other brews said Tuesday that Budweiser Black Crown is an amber lager. The first ad promoting it will run on Feb. 3 during Super Bowl 47, though the beer will be available in stores nationwide starting Jan. 21.
The launch comes a year after Anheuser-Busch InBev introduced Bud Light Platinum, another specialty beer, during the 2012 Super Bowl. Like Budweiser Black Crown, Bud Light Platinum has an alcohol content of 6 percent - Budweiser's is 5 percent.
Benj Steinman, editor of Beer Marketer's Insights, said Anheuser-Busch InBev is seeking to compete with the large variety of specialty products now on the market. Though Budweiser outsells its four nearest competitors combined in what is known as the "premium regular beer" market, that market isn't what it used to be.
"Budweiser peaked at 50 million barrels in 1988 - it's only about one-third of that at this point," Steinman said. "There's a constant desire among beer consumers these days for innovation, flavor, variety. That's why cocktails and spirits have gained strength."
Black Crown's recipe resulted from a challenge to Anheuser-Busch InBev's 12 brewmasters -- an effort dubbed "Project 12," the company said. The brewmasters crafted six beers, which customers sampled last year during a testing phase. The winning recipe came from Bryan Sullivan, a brewmaster in Los Angeles, and was the crowd favorite among the more than 25,000 adult drinkers who participated in the project's sampling initiative.
"As brewmasters we spend most of our time in the brewhouse," Sullivan said. "Project 12 gave us a chance to hear firsthand from the people we brew our beers for."
Company officials said Budweiser Black Crown blends two-row caramel malt with four types of domestic hops, finished on a bed of Beechwood chips. "It stays true to the original Budweiser recipe but has its own unique take," said Budweiser Black Crown's senior brand manager, Nate Scudieri.
In addition to the 30-second Super Bowl spot, national advertising will include billboards, digital, radio and print, along with social media.
Benj Steinman is editor of Beer Marketer's Insights. He says Anheuser-Busch InBev is trying to compete with the large variety of specialty products now on the market.
Black Crown has 6 percent alcohol content, roughly 1 percent more than Budweiser.

Sounds like a re-boot of Budweiser American Ale...I've been looking for that the last couple of weeks and can't seem to find it anywhere in Brandywine Hundred...

In other beer-related news, Lucky's Coffee Shop (The old Roach, I mean Ranch House) now serves beer and cocktails!

Re: Beer, beer and more beer related things

Forgot to tell everyone about this but, there is a new beer out called Albion Ale, released by The New Albion Ale Brewing Company. It's actually made by Sam Adams. It's in dedication to Jack McAuliffe, who is pretty much the inventor of Craft Beer, and started the Craft Beer movement. Using Jacks recipe and everything. I had it in Boston, it was darker up there, so they changed some thins. Like the one from Noston better, but its still pretty damn good. It is only being released for a limited time, and I was told what the stores had is all they are getting. It was released I think a week ago, maybe two. So it may be a little hard to find right now, Sorry about not saying anything sooner. Unless you go to one of those little mom and pop places, then you may find it.

Also got me a Six'r of Tenacious Traveler from House of Shandy, it's different, and it is tasty. It's made with Ginger, so it kind of has a Ginger Ale taste. But figured I liked their Curious Traveler so much, Lemon Beer, that I had to try Tenacious.

How much longer? 3 weeks? It will come out REALLY carbonated...like an old-school cane sugar Pepsi. But it should be mighty fine!!!

Re: Beer, beer and more beer related things

Yeah Chase got the Mr. Beer kit for Christmas from my brother-in-law and his wife. No Raptor, two weeks to brew, one week for secondary fermentation with sugar, and its been in the fridge since. Wanted to have some last week, but wanted to drink my Akbion Ale. Plus didn't ant to drink it with out having a name for it. Bad JuJu is what I said. So the name came to me Saturday night.

Let me know what you think....lol

Re: Beer, beer and more beer related things

So it seems I've been slacking for a bit.

Tenacious Traveler, from House of Shandy, who Los makes the Curious Traveler I talked about. Its different but good. I've had a 6 of that, kind of like a Ginger Ale but with a kick. Which is obvious, because its made with Ginger.

White Lantern from Sam Adams, oh my goodness. Like a Shandy, but with hints of Orange and Tangerine. Me likey,....

Got a 6'er of Harp Lager to celebrate St. Patrick's day with, not too bad I must say! Slainte

Oh and drank my last White Christmas as well. Just did that last night. Wanted to save it longer, since I like it so much. But, I did tell Wifey that I would drink what's in the fridge before I started the Harp. Gave me motivation to drink the old stuff.

Oh and if anyone comes across the Redds Apple Ale, please let me know here, as I want to try it, Thanks!

Probably missing another beer or two, but oh well. I'll eventually catch up on it.....lol

Re: Beer, beer and more beer related things

I had Redds last weekend...it's lighter than other "hard ciders"...didn't do much for me. I also tried Third Shift Amber lager...that's a dangerous one for me - too smooth NOT to finish the 6-pack!

Have you had Shocktops Honeycrisp Apple Wheat? Pretty good stuff, I must say. Only had one of them, since I bought a single. But I'd buy a 6'er of it.

    thanks on both accounts!
