Thumbs up Two Stones Naamans is OPEN!

A new beer temple has been built at Foulk and Naamans Roads.

Their motto is "no crap on tap" and it is spot on. If you're in the mood for Coors, Bud, Lite, etc., go to Stanley's. If you're looking for fine craft beers, Two Stones is the new kid in town.

After 1 day in operation, the owners are already expanding. They originally leased only 3500 sq ft of space that was formerly the Blockbuster Video store - they are starting the build out on the remaining 1500 sq ft, which was partitioned by the landlord.

The food rocks two - at least it did on the first night - always a sign of good things. The crab cakes rival Harry's in terms of the amount of lump crab bursting through. The duck confit tacos were spot on, and the brewmaster platter rocked.

Stop by and support the new kid in town!

If it's anything like the one in Newark the food will be excellent and I've never seen more kinds of beer anywhere.

Two Stones Naamans sounds like a good locale for a TD meet-up

I went to Two Stones tonight and had a pretty expensive beer in a bar that was based in a strip mall. The beer was good. Then I went to Stanley's and had a Jack and Coke and every single bar tender knew me by name and made it a point to stop by and say hello. I like Stanley's better...

Well the bartenders won't know you by name if they've only been open for one night.

Raptor.... thanks for the great review. I wish you would review more places for us, I always enjoy your insight.

I second the idea of a TD meet up at Two Stones. Unless Raptor thinks it might be too crowded or difficult to secure a few tables for some loudish banter??

Re: Two Stones Naamans is OPEN!

Me 'n me misses dropped in Saturday evening...I think I saw Rockmama at the bar...it was like 8pm and the place was jumping...cracker is right on, it definitely isn't for the tight wallet (and having a beer pulled by Tina, Melissa, Jim, or any of the other long-time Stanley's staffers - and making fun of Bill Bergey with them on Monday nights, is always a blast - "it doesn't get any better than that")...

Anyway, we dropped $60 and there were only 40 oz. of beer consumed. But, any random time at Stanley's, Stoney's, Outback, McKenzie's, Ulysses, Iron Hill, Duffer's, Big Fish, Shellhammer's, Kid Shalleen's, Mexican Post, Del Rose, (insert any other $10 burger bar here), etc. we're dropping the same amount of cash.

The thing I'm discovering about 2 Stones is that they offer samples - try before you buy - and they have small and large sizes. I'm not gonna want to kill a full pint of a scotch ale pullin' a 14.0 ABV...but give me a 1/2 pint of the heavy and I'll work a full pint of a lighter lager or a pilsner.

The joint is loud - not as loud as Ulysses, but without a drop ceiling, the sound reverberates and travels, they do have larger tables towards the back - I'm sure that if we're paying customers, they wouldn't mind creating a small fortress for us to defend.

Someone be a leader and set it up...my days of organizing anyone other then myself are over...

I was playin' in Philly....Yards Love and Yards Extra Special...wife had a small Evolution Scotch Ale...they called it something else tho...they're real heavy on Dogfish right now...Twin Lakes, Yards, Evolution, 16 Mile, Victory, and the other Delaware one that was in Virginia until last year - I forget the name...they have a book that they leave at the table with you...not like the Victory "bible", but more of a guide...

Two Stones Naamans is definitely a big step up from the Hideaway on Ebright road. Cheers and hope to see some of you there soon.

Re: Two Stones Naamans is OPEN!

Raptor.... I was dreading hearing that this place is LOUD.

I hate loud bars, restaurants, etc. What's the deal with the exposed ceilings design trend? Don't they realize that sound bounces off the steel pipes and high metal ceilings? Catherine Rooney's C.R. Hooligans has this problem too. There has to be a way to incorporate good design AND sound absorption into these places so people can have conversations without screaming at each other.

I guess when you feature a dozen or more TV's, you expect people to shut up and drink while watching a game. The original idea of a pub (aka public meeting house) was as a social scene for the locals while enjoying some nosh and a pint. This concept is clearly gone and replaced ........ by twitter?

Someone should remind these establishments that we can watch sports and drink the same beer at a fraction of the cost in our homes. The general appeal to pubs should be more than zombie like alcoholics, sitting with elbows on the bar, staring blankly at an out of town sports broadcast on a TV. Pubs should be the hub, center of the community... the place where actions are hatched to better our society. It's hard to gather the masses for a revolt at a Barnes and Noble or a Brew-Ha Ha.

Can you tell I wish I lived in the mid 17th century sometimes? Carry on mates.
    Cheers.

I think its a dollar thing - lease-held improvements (such as a ceiling) are long-term recoverables. They cut a few thousand dollars off of their build out and can open their doors early. Plus, access for repairs is easier.

I agree, I can't stand the noise levels in most places like that.

Re: Two Stones Naamans is OPEN!

Maybe Two Stones will put in a deck or outside patio. There is nothing to look at in that center but they could amp it up with hardscaping, shrubbery and ambiance lighting. What kind of permit (aka hoops) would they have to jump through for this to happen?

Seriously, there is a severe shortage of outdoor dining in Northern DE. Besides Trolley Sq and that awful chain restaurant on 202.... Chilis??, where can you find casual outdoor dining? (Trolley Sq isn't really N. Wilm but it's the place I go when I want to dine/sit outside.)
