Lewes boat captain fined for fish violations
A sportfish boat captain pleaded guilty to fishing charges Sept. 4 for using flounder parts as bait.

Flounder as bait? Been on plenty of fishing boats, let alone my Grandparents boat for fishing, a ton. Don't think not once have I ever used or heard of using Flounder as bait. What does the flounder typically gets bites from? And before anyone wants to be a smarty pants, yeah I know other fish, duh, lol

I imagine just about any fish would hit on it, the underbelly looks like squid so thats a good all purpose bait, shark, bluefish. The bigger issue for me is that it seems as though the flounder must have been undersize since the carcase was not on board?

SO you may gut it and use those parts as bait but you must keep the carcass.

Old boat captain trick, use the underside of illegal flounder for bait. throw carcass overboard as chum.

They were hoping to get the larger flounder to bite on the fresher bait.

So let's say I catch a bunch of flounder one day. My limit of 18" legal ones. And somewhere in the hold I might have a bunch of illegal small ones. So, that night, I take my catch home, filet all my legal tasty flounders, and save the carcass of a big ol' 21 incher. Than I gut bait the little ones and brine marinate them all night. And the next day, I set out with a bunch of flounder strip bait, and the carcass of the 21" flounder I fileted the previous night. How the hell is anybody gonna know?

If it was me Kid, I'd eat the little ones too. Since you didn't mean to keep them, and you got them home anyway.

KL seems like a bunch of work for trying to beat the Law. Why not just filet the legal on the boat and, save the carcass. So when you filet the illegal and throw the carcass for chum, so you can't get busted when asked. You have the legal carcass on the boat that really don't go with your bait, but are they really going to try and prove that?
