Ohio teen collapses after 4-day Xbox marathon

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A four-day Xbox gaming marathon apparently was too much for one 15-year-old Ohio boy.
WCMH-TV ( bit.ly/N3Ugln) reports that the Columbus teen collapsed and was hospitalized Tuesday after becoming severely dehydrated. His mother says he emerged from his bedroom during the four days only to pick up snacks or take a quick shower.
The boy was so engrossed in playing Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox that he made himself sick.
He's expected to be OK — but his mom has taken away the Xbox.
Dr. Mike Patrick, an emergency physician at Nationwide Children's Hospital, recommended that gamers use some common sense: Get plenty of food and fluids, take breaks for physical activity and get some sleep.

Shower, WTF is he showering for? was he really that sweaty? Plus who was he trying to impress the girls on Live? They can't see or smell you idiot, no need to waste that valuable MW3 time showering. Why didn't his mom step in before this happened? Let alone why was he walking away fromt eh 360 to get snacks? Call your mom and have her do it, jackass. What kind of gamer are you?

I tend to not eat or drink anything when I am playing, but afterwards, I eat like a crazy person. Typically its about 2 in the morning and right before I go to bed. So probably not the best idea.

The real question is why in the hell is this dumbass having a 4 day marathon gaming sesh with MW3? Games been out close to a year I think, I am pretty sure he has already prestiged, learned how to quick scope, figured out how to lay in the street, and hide in a corner already. Sell your 360 and jump off a bridge kid, the world will be better without you......

Ah didn't think of that one. Guess e really needed to get to that 15th Prestige. Cause that gold gun doesn't have no life loser written all over it. I'm sure everyone will think that he got it legit too, right....

but his mom has taken away the Xbox.
Ya think? Here's a thought.....maybe if you had done that or had rules in the first place your kid wouldn't be in the hospital. Dumb ass. This is just another story I can pull out when my kids whine about not having TV's in their rooms. Or when my son complains he only gets 2 hours max on video games.

On days he is allowed to play, yes, two hour max is the rule. IMO kids have too much electronic crap in their lives. My kids know they will never have TV's in their rooms or one in our kitchen. The way I look at it is my time with my kids living at home and being actual children is very limited. They are active kids and are going out on their own to do things now that they are teens. Our family dinners mean a lot to me. No matter how busy or stressed we do our best to sit down to dinner as a family each night, no phones at the table and no TV's on. Which carries into no TV's in their rooms. They are teenagers now, I see them seldom enough, I am not giving them another reason to hang out in their rooms away from the family. I'd rather referee arguments all night long and spend time with my kids than let them sit mindlessly in front of a TV or video game. I've always said being a mom is the most important thing I will ever do in my life, I may not be perfect and I know I am super strict, but my kids do know where they stand and how important they are to us. We tell them all the time that they have rules as kids because there are laws as adults. Get used to it now Oh and Bellicose, none of our game systems are even hooked up permanently. The kids have to ask if they can play then pull them out and hook them up to the TV whenever they want to play. They can't just come into the living room and start playing. And all cell phones and other electronics have to be in the kitchen at a set time every night or they loose them for 24 hours.

There's something seriously wrong with anyone who can't peel themselves away from their computer or game after four six eight twelve hours....

Tight ship you run there, but then again I wish more parents would be more involved with their kids life. Instead of just giving them something so they shut up and leave them alone.

If I had to hook up my system every time I wanted to play, I would never play. Too lazy, 2 hours is about what I play on Friday and Saturday night, that's when it hits midnight and hen its usually a couple more hours after that. But all my chores are done, so it's ok. Don't play during he week, and sometimes i don't even play on Friday.

I would of been so pissed. Not too long ago we were playing a game of SWAT, I made a call out, and my buddies were like where? I said bottom snipe, you know right outside of rest area. Huh, where? I was yelling at them saying how the hell do you not know where that is. I call it out all the time. So after taht game, I should them where it was, they were oh ok. Think it only really made me mad, because they were really dragging that game, and I had like 22 kills out of 50 myself. Just needed that one little thing to happen for me, and I would of pulled the Win out.

That is impressive, and I do feel your pain!
