    Phils-Hamels reach $140M deal

It looks like Cole Hamels will not be changing uniforms anytime soon.
ESPN is quoting sources as saying that the Phillies and Hamels have agreed to a six year contract extension worth just over $140-million, pending a physical.

The 28-year-old pitcher had been the focus of trade rumors - but not anymore. With this deal Hamels avoids free agency and makes him the second highest paid pitcher in history - the highest paid being CC Sabathia, who signed a seven-year deal with the New York Yankees in 2008 worth $161-million. source

Hamels is a great pitcher. Too many times though he has gone out and pitched a great game only to have his teammates let him down.

    Sweet.

Now you just gotta hope there's more money for a third baseman, center fielder, and a new bullpen.

I could not agree more. He's lost so many 1 and 2 run games (or gotten a no decision) that I honestly thought the team just didn't like him.

Sorry but for that kind of money I think he should be throwing perfect 81 pitch 27 consecutive strike out games.

Am I the only one that thinks maybe this is just a little bit overpaying?

I'm watching his in-game interview now, and reflecting on how amazingly happy I am to have this deal reached. It's a lot of money. A ton of money. But I think he's worth it. He's an asset to the team and someone who has been consistent for them while so many others haven't. He could have easily bailed and gone somewhere that has a strong support and has the potential to get him more Ws that he's earned without screwing the pooch at the bottom of the 8th.

Just down right ridiculous. I like watching sports, and everything. But I'm sorry not one person in this world is worth that much money. Contracts are getting ridiculous!
