A woman drove into Indian River Bay July 21 escaping the partially submerged vehicle; her dog died in the crash.
The unidentified woman was driving a white Chevrolet Cavalier along River Road at 2:49 p.m. and failed to stop at a stop sign at the end of Oak Orchard Road, said Patrick C. Miller, president of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Co. The car drove over a bulkhead and into the bay striking pilings, bulkheading and pier materials along the way, Miller said.
The driver was able to get out of the car and was uninjured but her dog died inside, he said.
Emergency responders and Bunting's Towing used a boom truck to pull the car from the water.
No firefighters or emergency responders were injured
