SOME left/right leaning may be necessary!
Her name is Lillian; but to her family and friends she’s just plain Mom. A stroke a couple of years ago left her with slurred speech but not paralyzed in any way. She has to use a wheelchair; but it’s because arthritis has ruined her knee joints and ankles.
Today was her 100th birthday—a milestone no one thought she'd achieve when she had her stroke. She doesn’t speak well at all. But, her mind is as sharp as it ever was and she communicates by writing notes. And, while she writes clearly, she does so slowly.
As Mom sat quietly in her wheelchair, her family and friends were enjoying her birthday party on her daughter’s patio. She had just inhaled a slice of birthday cake, not to mention the fact that she had all but chugged two glasses of champagne.
As her daughter glanced towards the wheelchair, she noticed that Mom was learning slightly to the right. She motioned for someone to get one of those throw-pillows which she used to prevent a lean to the right.
A few minutes later a couple of folks noticed that she was starting to lean a bit to the left. Another throw-pillow stuffed between her and the left arm of the wheelchair solved the lean.
And, just to be safe, they tightened the wheelchair’s chest harness to make sure she didn’t accidentally lean forward and fall out of the wheelchair.
Suddenly her eyes lit up and a smile covered her face. Her great grandson, Jason, bounded onto the patio; hugged his great grandmother; and said, “Hi Mom, how’s it going? How are they treating you?”
Mom pulled out her little notepad and slowly wrote a note and handed it to Jason. “Bastards won't let me fart!”
