2 Boats Collide Off Delaware Coast; 8 Rescued

BETHANY BEACH, Del. (AP) - The Coast Guard says it rescued eight people off the Delaware coast after a pre-dawn collision between a large motorboat and sailboat.

The Coast Guard says six of the people rescued Friday were aboard the motorboat, the Line Item, which took on water and sank about seven miles east of Bethany Beach. Two boaters and a cat were pulled from the disabled sailboat, the Obsession.

    No injuries were reported.

The Coast Guard station in Rehoboth Beach heard the mayday call. A boat crew from that station and a cutter out of Cape May, N.J., took part in the rescue.

Who brings a cat on a boat? Cats and water are mortal enemies!

Most cats don't like the water; but water and cats are not moral enemies. There isn't a cat alive and physically well that can't swim as far, as fast, and every bit as well as any dog can swim. I have two cats that will jump into the bathtub or the shower the second they hear the water running. I have a good friend who has a cat that jumps into and plays with her kids in ther wading pool.

When my father was alive, he owned a beachouse on a lagoon in Ocean City, New Jersey. He also owned a cabin cruiser. Whenever he was starying there, his two cats practically lived on the boat. He had to put two liter boxex below the main deck for them. It got to the point that both of them literaly perched themselves on the bow of the boat whenever he took it out.

Just noticed the spelling above... too late to edit, of course. The word should be MORTAL, not moral.
