    Left spending spree

Want to know a sure way to go out of business? Be a "green tech" company in the good graces of the Obama administration. It turns out that, just like Solyndra, another alternative energy company receiving massive funds from the federal government is about to go under.
A geothermal energy company with a $98.5 million loan guarantee from the Obama administration for an alternative energy project in Nevada -- which received hearty endorsements from Energy Secretary Steven Chu and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid -- faces financial problems, and the company's auditors have questioned whether it can stay in business.
Much like Solyndra LLC, a California solar-panel manufacturer with a $535 million federal loan guarantee that went bankrupt, Nevada Geothermal Power (NGP) (Reid`s home state) has incurred $98 million in net losses over the past several years, has substantial debts and does not generate enough cash from its current operations after debt-service costs, an internal audit said.
"The company's ability to continue as a going concern is dependent on its available cash and its ability to continue to raise funds to support corporate operations and the development of other properties," NGP auditors said in a financial statement for the period ending March 31.
It appears those on the left forget one important aspect about a business... it's supposed to make a profit.
Think of all the money wasted that could have gone to job seekers!

    Awesome point.

Let's stir the pot some more. A lot of church bulletins actually have business advertising on them. What if this restaurant was to advertise an actual coupon in local church bulletins. And let's say that's the ONLY places they are available. Then what? Is someone going to tell them they also have to have their coupon printed in a publication that isn't for church services?

Personally, I take the Bill of Rights very seriously. And the vast majority of the time, I'm going to side with the ACLU when it comes to government and institutions selectively promoting Christianity over other religions or discriminating against certain religions or atheists.

But this thing is straight up horseshit. Anybody can pull into a church parking lot, run in and grab a bulletin. Ask any Catholic over 40 how easy it is to grab a bulletin (or 3, depending on how many Moms are expecting to see one), run out before mass starts, and then go screw off for a couple hours. You don't have to attend church to get this discount. You just need a bulletin. The bulletin is your coupon. Pick one up any place you like.

Re: Obama tax increase in 2013

With all of this exposed (but not reported on in the mainstream media) , the president continues to claim "no new taxes". Instead he continues to try different attacks on Romney which don't seem to be getting much traction. Soon even the most fervent Obama supporters will realize that their hope and change is really just smoke and mirrors. Politics as usual from the "most transparent" administration in history. That may be the biggest lie in political history. My question of the day is, are Obama supporters unwilling or unable to accept the truth?

I can tell you right now, barring some MAJOR unforeseen circumstance, that I'll be voting for Obama again.

I'd be happy to discuss any proposed tax increases. However, the only source for the information in this thread has proven time and time and time again to be completely unreliable and most certainly biased.

All the hype is what kills us in this country, Obama doesn't want these things to lapse anymore then the right does. I do believe the dems want more tax money, but I don't think the R's are gonna cry over more money either.

Actually, the only way that the church bulletin could have been the coupon is for it to have contained an advertisement taken out in the bulletin containing a coupon. Targeted advertising is perfectly legal--probably not the smartest business move; it limits the customer pool--but it's legitimate.

What a restaurant can't do is discriminate against people based on religion, race, etc. In other words, if an avowed atheist walked into the restaurant with a bulletin, management could not refuse to honor it based on his religious stand. But this is a moot point because Wolff could have had the Sunday discount simply by patronizing the place on a Sunday as long as he ordered it "eat-in" as opposed to a "take-out." All Sunday customers got the discount; it had become a standard menu advertized discount.

When I read of this incident--It's only a COMPLAINT, by the way, not a lawsuit. The ACLU is not involved and no one is lining up to defend John Wolff's position--I did a double take and rewrote this week's True Facts piece to address it. For those wanting to read it click here.

I've eaten in the Lost Cajun Restaurant many times, not to mention that I have had many pleasant conversations with Sharon Prudhomme. She doesn't come close to being a Bible-thumper. The point of her "church-bulletin" ploy was to encourage more people to stop at the restaurant after church services. But, whether they bring a church-bulletin or not, they receive the discount as long as they order as "eat-ins." Every Sunday walk-in gets the discount.

And, while the STATE of Pennsylvania treats restaurants as public service establishments--so do most of the other states--thereby forbidding discrimination based on religion, race, etc., this was not the case with Sharon. The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission will make its ruling based on a preponderance of the evidence--in other words, is it more likely than not that she did NOT discimate according to the law as written. Wolff's complaint is apt to fall on deaf ears.

Re: Obama tax increase in 2013

The first of many tax hikes is being announced today by our President. Check Obamacare taxes for yourself because many of you will not accept as valid any info provided by a conservative. The national debt is almost $16 trillion and the unfunded liabilities exceed that number by far. More people went on Social Security disability in June that found jobs. About half of our citizens now pay no federal income tax, many of those not paying any federal tax receive tax credit. This cannot continue without dire consequences. Military leaders consider the world more dangerous now than in the last 40 years and massive military cutbacks are now proposed by the President that will also result in the loss of over a million military support jobs. The days of tax & spend and vote buying are coming to an end. It's time to face reality before it's too late.

Obama needs money to pay for his spending

On the heels of the widespread exposure of President Obama’s health care law as a massive middle-class tax hike, his decision to bring back his infamous plan for “tax hikes on the rich” is an economic and political disaster.
The Wall Street Journal recently analyzed the impact of Obama’s health care mandate tax and concluded: “It is now undeniable that Mr. Obama has imposed the largest tax increase in history on the middle class.” So middle-class voters with serious economic anxiety will be understandably skeptical about the president’s latest promise that his next round of tax hikes will spare them.
Moreover, Obama’s claim that a partisan stalemate is to blame for impending tax hikes obscures the fact that when Democrats controlled every lever of power in Washington, they did nothing to cancel the tax hikes, instead focusing almost exclusively on a health care bill that piled even more taxes on the middle class.
Consider the case of Americans who built up value in a home their entire lives and never made more than a modest annual income. They will be “rich” according to Obama in the one year they sell that home – and subject to a hefty tax hike with the new health care surtax on capital gains taking the tax above the exempt amount from 15 percent now to 23.8 percent next year.
Middle-class voters with serious economic anxiety will be understandably skeptical about the president’s latest promise that his next round of tax hikes will spare them.
    -

That hefty increase in capital gains and the even bigger, near tripling of the dividend tax from 15 percent to 43.3 will trigger a massive stock market sell-off that will wallop the retirement accounts of people of all income levels. Economist Don Luskin has estimated that allowing these provisions to expire as Obama today proposed will cause a 30 percent collapse in the stock market – bad news for every American hoping to retire or already living out of a retirement account.
The stock market impact and the direct impact of higher taxes on small businesses will hurt the employment prospects of millions of Americans in an already sputtering economy. Bloomberg News recently reported: “President Barack Obama’s plan to raise tax rates for the top 2 percent of U.S. households would mean higher taxes on 53 percent of business income reported on individual returns, according to the Joint Committee on Taxation.”
Such a huge tax hike on small businesses – who comprise the overwhelmingly majority of upper-income individual tax filers – will negatively impact not just business owners but every worker on the margin of being hired or laid off.
Obama didn’t mention it Monday, but one of the “tax hikes on the rich” he has favored, and presumably would include in his plan, is to allowing the death tax to jump from its current 35 percent rate above $5 million to a confiscatory 55 percent rate on everything above $1 million -- this will put a lot of family businesses and farms out of business.

Many Americans would consider accepting these tax hikes, even with all the economic pain they would bring, if they actually believed they would be used to balance the budget. But Obama has done nothing to cut federal spending, and when Democrats controlled the House and had a supermajority in the Senate Obama used it to dramatically increase spending even faster than he raised taxes. Every dollar of his new tax hike is therefore almost certain to be spent on more wasteful spending.
The bottom line is: the smart economic and political play with the American electorate was to declare that there would be no more tax hikes this year, period. Now we have to watch another Washington game of chicken with the USeconomy teetering in the balance. Obama has failed another test of leadership. unquote

Lester, The great thing about living in the United States and being a citizen is that one has the right of freedom of speech and the right to vote for the candidates of their choice. Have you considered the possibility that conservatives may not be biased but are in fact expressing their opinions? Then too, non conservatives may actually be biased against conservatives. We may actually have differeing opinions and neither of us may be biased. I would like to take this opportunity to mention that as citizens we have the right to send in additional funds to help with government expenses. In otherwords we may pay even more taxes than the government dictates. So if you are OK with higher taxes, get that checkbook out and send in some additional loot for the president to spend.

Re: Obama tax increase in 2013

I'm either writing in Ron Paul or checking the box for Gary Johnson.

I've had liberals tell me that a vote for Paul or Johnson is a vote for Romney. Ironically, I've had conservatives insist the exact opposite, that it would be a vote for Obama. Being as that the two major parties have presented a choice between Obomney and Obomney, it doesn't matter which side is correct.

I will not vote for Obomney or Obomney. Paul and Johnson are the only candidates I am willing to consider. In either case, I am voting for peace, prosperity and freedom -- not perpetual wars and nation-building, poverty and a police state.

Taxpayers might receive another 'Economic Stimulus' payment.

This is indeed a very exciting program, and I'll explain it by using a Q & A format:

    Q. What is an 'Economic Stimulus' payment?
    A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

    Q. Where will the government get this money?
    A. From taxpayers.

    Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
    A. Only a smidgen of it.

    Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
    A. The plan is for you to use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

    Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China?
    A. Shut up.

    And Remember…

    * If you spend the stimulus money at Wal-Mart, the money will go to China or Sri Lanka.

    * If you spend it on gasoline, your money will go to the Arabs.

    * If you purchase a computer, it will go to India, Taiwan or China.

    * If you purchase fruit and vegetables, it will go to Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala.

    * If you buy an efficient car, it will go to Japan or Korea.

    * If you purchase useless stuff, it will go to Taiwan

and thanks to Unions your jobs went overseas where companies are making profits on cheaper labor.

the Devil sits in the Whitehouse

When Barack Obama promised to "fundamentally transform the United States" we could not have anticipated the extreme transformations he would seek. The evidence is rolling in that he is determined to transform America into a totally secular land where religion is permitted only within the walls of a church and is banned in every public place, public gathering and public school.Obama tipped us off to his animosity toward religious Americans when, campaigning in San Francisco in 2008, he insulted religious people in small towns. He said, they "get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
In April 2009, Obama delivered a speech at Georgetown University, only after his staff had pressured the Catholic college to conceal the monogram for the name of Jesus that was always displayed above the podium. In May 2009, he cancelled the traditional White House event honoring the National Day of Prayer, saying that he would pray only in private.
Obama began censoring religious words out of important American documents, such as the Declaration of Independence, from which he many times deleted the word "Creator." In a November 2010, speech, Obama pretended to quote the U.S. national motto, "In God We Trust," but he changed it to "e pluribus unum" (out of many, one).
When Obama gave the traditional Presidential Thanksgiving Day address in 2011, it's not clear whom he was thanking on this uniquely American holiday, but it was not God.
Barack Obama is trying to morph our traditional religious liberty to the lesser scope of freedom of worship. That means worship only inside a church, or maybe a synagogue, but not any public affirmation of belief in God.
In July 2011, Obama's Department of Veterans Affairs banned any mention of Jesus Christ during burials at Houston National Cemetery. The ban was lifted only after hundreds of demonstrators protested.
In September 2011, the U.S. Army revised guidelines for Walter Reed Hospital to read: "No religious items (i.e., Bibles, reading materials...) are allowed to be given away or used during a visit." The hospital rescinded this policy only after Congressman Steve King, R-Iowa, reported it to the House of Representatives.
In February 2012, the Air Force removed the Latin word for God, Dei, from the logo of the Rapid Capabilities Office, and it was also removed the Latin motto, which means "Doing God's Work With Other People's Money." The new logo says, "Doing Miracles with Other People's Money."
Also in February 2012, the U.S. Army warned Catholic chaplains not to read from an archbishop's letter opposing the Obama administration's mandate that all employers, including religious hospitals, schools and colleges, must pay for abortifacients drugs, contraceptives and sterilizations for their employees. People were shocked by the military order telling chaplains what they cannot say to members of their own faith during a religious service.
A prime example of Obama's hostility to religion is the Supreme Court case of Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School v. EEOC, in which the Obama administration challenged the longtime religious exemption that prevents politicians from controlling the hiring and firing of employees of religious institutions. The church had fired one of its minister/teachers, and she sued to get her job back.
With the help of Obama's Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, EEOC, this case got up to the U.S. Supreme Court. Obama's lawyer made the astonishing argument that the federal government could force the Lutheran church to rehire her, but the Obama administration's case was so ludicrous that in January 2012 it lost 9 to 0.
Obama's first judicial appointment, David Hamilton, had worked for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now as a fundraiser, as vice president for litigation for Indiana's American Civil Liberties Union branch and was known for blocking pro-life and pro-decency laws. Even the left-leaning American Bar Association called him "not qualified."
Hamilton was most noteworthy as a district court judge for striking down a prayer in 2005 used in the Indiana Legislature that mentioned Jesus Christ and ordering the Indiana Legislature to "refrain from using Christ's name or title or any other denominational appeal." At the same time, Hamilton stated that it is permissible for the Legislature to use the word "Allah."
After that, President Obama promoted David Hamilton to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Another ACLU-type judicial appointment made by President Obama was federal Judge Michael Urbanski. He suggested in court that the Ten Commandments be censored down to six commandments in order to make the posting of the commandments legal under the First Amendment.
Barack Obama has a record of hostility to religion that we have never before seen in any American president. Of course he does. Our religions do not agree with his Muslim faith or background. Take back America while still have some of it left!
