16 Mile Brewery Expands With Other Local Businesses
Georgetown, De. -- In the middle of Sussex County Delaware, lies 16 Mile Brewery. A small but growing business that represents the increasing popularity of the craft beer industry in the first state.
"Right now everything looks great for us to double our business in the next year and hopefully double it again," Claus Hagelman, the sales and marketing director tells us.
16 Mile is expanding by combining their taste with other local flavors.
"In our business and its folding over into a lot of other ones including restaurant the bakery the cheese ice cream," Hagelman adds.
Like Root Gourmet, a food market in Rehoboth that uses 16 Mile beer for bread.
"It adds a lot of deep malty flavors a little bit of chocolate a little bit of coffee it adds a lot of little notes to it and it's a really terrific product at the end of the day," Keith Irwin with Root Gourmet tells us.
16 Mile's excess barley is even being used to feed pigs on local farms.
"Makes them grow faster and it tenderizes the meat to give it a different flavor," says Brooks Truitt with Swallow Acres Farm.
And breaking into the dairy industry, combining 16 Mile brews with Chapels Creamery cheeses, or Kings home made ice cream.
By September, 16 mile will be getting more tanks, allowing them to produce 40 percent more beer.
