Forwood elementary student in attack on School bus

Caught On Video: Attack On A School Bus

What happened to this child, the mother says, she feels the district failed her. She says she's contacted them many times this year about her two daughters being bullied. And last week, her fear played out in a way no parent wants it to.
A cell phone video of the scene that will forever be engraved in Aisha Williams-Gray's mind. She fights to hold back tears watching an 11 year old girl relentlessly beat her youngest daughter who is just seven years old.
The attack happened on the school bus on the way home from Forwood elementary school Friday afternoon.

You see the 7 year old stand on the seat to come face to face with her attacker in a bold attempt to defend her. Then the beating begins and ends with this tiny child on the floor, tossed around like a rag doll.
This precious little girl says her attacker has verbally tortured her for quite some time.
We're protecting her identity because of the trauma she's suffered.
The girl's eight year old sister returned to school Monday without her and says the attacker was there taunting her.
This is the hospital report diagnosing the little girl who also suffers from asthma, with a head hematoma and concussion. Mom also filed this police report. The Brandywine School District says it's investigating.
Aisha says she's been to the school several times begging for help. She says both her seven year old and 8 year old daughters have been bullied. source

That poor little girl. I hope her mom raises hell. My younger daughter was bullied in elementary school. As a parent it is so damn frustrating. I finally got to the point where I confronted the principal and told him my daughter would not be returning to school until something was done. And then I went home and called every damn number for the district I could find and gave each and every school board member a piece of my mind too.
You can only make a mistake once. After that it's a choice.

Holy crap. Two of my kids go to that school, and they both ride the bus home.

It's such a shame the school chose to do nothing before this happened.

The story behind this story is even more shocking. I can't post anything here but there is a lot more to this story as I learned last night from many friends I have in the district and that school.

Re: Forwood elementary student in attack on School bus

A 7-year-old Claymont girl returned to Forwood Elementary School on Wednesday, three days after she was pummeled by a fifth-grade student in an attack on their school bus, an incident caught on video on another student's cell phone. The assault, which is being investigated both by Brandywine School District officials and state police, has prompted some changes to ensure students are safe when riding the bus to and from school, district Superintendent Mark Holodick said. The incident unfolded Friday afternoon on the ride home from school, according to the 7-year-old's mother, Aisha Williams-Gray.When the school bus rolled up to her Woodacres apartment, several students carried her crying daughter off the bus, she said."The kids were all saying that there had been a fight on the bus and that the driver didn't stop it and kept on driving to reach our stop."The children told Williams-Gray that the fight had been provoked by a fifth-grade girl, who bullied and then attacked her daughter when she wouldn't give up her jelly beans.A video of the assault was later sent to Williams-Gray.In it, the fifth-grader could be seen initially giving Williams-Gray's daughter a shove. Then the first-grader stood up on the bus seat, to be eye to eye with her attacker, and the two girls exchanged words. The altercation escalated when the older girl shoved the younger one.The fifth-grader grabbed the 7-year-old by the scruff of the neck and beat her repeatedly in the back of the head, then yanked her to the bus floor. She hit her a few more time before heading to the rear of the bus.The attack, as seen on the video, took about 34 seconds amid shouts from the other children.Williams-Gray took her daughter to a hospital, where she said the girl was treated for a traumatic hematoma to the head and a concussion.Williams-Gray then reported the incident to state police. And Monday morning she went to the school to confront officials who, she said, were apparently unaware of what had happened. The bus driver wrote an incident report Friday afternoon, but the report wasn't received by district transportation and elementary scool officials until Monday, said district spokeswoman Alexis Andrianopoulos. They launched an investigatinon, reviewing surveillance tapes from the bus and interviewing students, parents and the bus driver, Andrianopoulos said. Read full article

Ummm, isn't this considered assault? Especially since it's caught on video.

We have read several articles about kids doing less than this being taken away in handcuffs. If that had been my kid that was hurt they would have locked me up because I would have gone on the bus after the kid that beat her up that bad.

I'm not sure I would've done that, but I would've been very tempted to visit this kid's parents.

America is an idea, but it's an idea that brings with it some baggage, like power brings responsibility. It's an idea that brings with it equality, but equality even though it's the highest calling, is the hardest to reach. The idea that anything is possible, that's one of the reasons why I'm a fan of America. - Bono, Commencement University of Pennsylvania May 17, 2004

It was apparently also attempted theft. Jelly Beans or not, kids shouldn't be treated like that and bullied by other kids.

I am a fairly calm easy going person. BUT if I had seen my child coming off the bus like that I would have gone ballistic.
