    Kayak

Most of you know I stay outside as much as I can, crabbing hunting etc. well I went out and bought two kayaks for the wife and I to explore some of the more remote areas of Delaware. Stay tuned for pictures, and if anyone is interested in joining us let me know.....

    Re: Kayak

Looking forward to seeing some photos of your explorations, max1. I've done some canoeing in the past and probably will again as my sons get old enough to follow directions a little better. But for now, we do our exploring in a little jon boat with an outboard. It's actually small enough to get into some fairly skinny water and we've "discovered" some beautiful areas putting around Delaware lakes and ponds. Trap Pond down in Laurel is one you should put on your list, although you may want to do it in the off season when it isn't packed with campers.

Good luck with your new toys!

I haven'tbeen there in years but there at least was a small stream going off Trap Pond at the far left end from the road that you could go all the way through and pick canoe up cross road and be in another pond. It was kind of neat way back in the woods.

I've crabbed at Wye Mills a few times with my brother-in-law but found I'm much more successful and happier obtaining my crabs at Sambo's. My older boy is really itching to give it a try though so I'm sure I'll relent and give it a go again once the season gets going (June? July?).

    Re: Kayak

Sounds good, where will you be doing this? We gave our canoe to our son, so going down the Brandywine from Lenapy (Sp?) or even the Brandywine River Museum is out now, but we have fond memories of that trip down to the little park just after Smith Bridge Road. Float a little, have a nice cold beer, and float some more, yeah, hard times indeed. The only down side was if we didn't have someone to take up to the launch site and pick us up. Then it was a royal pain. Drive to the landing site, drop off a car, head to the launch site, launch, enjoy the trip then load the canoe, drive back to the launch site and pick up the other car. Almost easier to rent one and go with a group of friends. Still, what a great way to spend the day.

It is Lenape, as in Lenni Lenape Indians. They are the tribe that lived in the Mid-Atlantic region until they were driven out by the British . Also known as the Delaware Indians after the Delaware river. Ashland Nature center has some good info about the people and I think White Clay creek park may also. It's been a few years since my kids learned about them. Pretty interesting, my kids went through a period where they were fascinated with them. Sorry for the thread high jack.......back on topic

Took a quick lunch break today and explored this far end of blackbird creek. Supposedly, Blackbeard buried a treasure on the banks of the creek near Blackbird..who knows but its pretty.Click image for larger version.
