    Homeschool On The Rise

    Homeschool On The Rise

MARYLAND - More and more families are taking their children out of public schools and teaching them at home. According to researchers, the numbers of kids being home schooled in the US has sky rocketed. Growing from around 15,000 back in 1970 to over 500,000 in 1990, to now over 1 million. A report estimates that anywhere from 50 to 90 percent of homeschooling families choose it for religious reasons.

That doesn't surprise me, too many public schools anymore of just indoctrination tanks for the left. You either have to read everything they put in front of your kids, closely monitor what they are learning or put them in private school or teach them yourself.

Wow. Way to narrow down the percentage. lol

So, this means that anywhere from 10-50% choose it for non-religious reasons?

How about 100% of homeschoolers choose to homeschool because they feel it's a better option for their families for *whatever* reason?

I'm sorry to say it's not even that any more. Just push 'em through whether they can read anything above the level of the Sunday funnies or not, and send in the next batch of burger flippers.

Most of the people I know who do it are in the liberty movement, and homeschool for non-religious reasons, mainly because of what Panama Girl just said: the publik skools don't teach anything. They just push the kids through.

If I had a kid, I'd want to homeschool for this reason, at least through 8th grade. I went through math past Calc III, so I could handle the material up to that point, and the math beyond. I wouldn't be able to handle some of the high school sciences, though.

Copy of an email I sent to the author :

Your web posting. "Homeschool On The Rise" popped up on a community
site I frequent. Upon reading the summary on TalkDelaware.com I decided
to click over to read the full text only to find the summary was the full text
(68 words total, a tweet could have done it), or am I missing the body of
    your article?
Other than quoting numbers the only interesting data you quote is a religious
motivation for home schooling but no background or analysis, do you have
    any thoughts on that?
You site researchers and a report, but there is no link to read for me
to draw my own conclusions. I wonder if Amish and Mennonites are included
in the census of home schoolers. This could certainly effect the impression
    left by the 4 sentences.
If you do have the link to the report I would certainly enjoy the opportunity
to comment on it from a more informed point of view.
