Strip club donation helps Little League survive

(CBS/AP) LENNOX, Calif. - A surprise donation from a strip club will keep bats cracking for a financially-strapped Little League in Los Angeles County.

The Lennox Little League, part of the California District 37 Little League, will continue for at least another year because of donations from local businesses, including $1,200 from the Jet Strip gentleman's club.

Lennox is an unincorporated area just east of Los Angeles International Airport and south of Inglewood.

The Torrance Daily Breeze says that unlike the 2005 "The Bad News Bears" remake in which youngsters had "Bo-Peeps Gentleman's Club" on their uniforms, Lennox Little League players won't have jerseys with the Jet Strip logo.

The newspaper reports the strip club's parent company has a history of local philanthropy. But several organizations - including the Special Olympics, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the American Red Cross -- have refused to accept charity from the nude entertainment clubs.

Little League Turns Down Strip Club Donation

Apparently having a patron in "The Best Gentleman's Club near LAX" was a bit too much for a Los Angeles-based Little League, which decided to decline a $1,200 donation from the Jet Strip Club.

Initially Lennox Little League President Roberto Aguirre told ABC News affiliate KABC-TV he expected the league to keep the surprise donation after running into financial problems when the local school district doubled rental fees and forbid selling hot food during games.

"They went out of their way to give $1,200 to kids who really need it," Aguirre said. "I can't get upset about that."

However, it looks like league officials had second thoughts, as Aguirre later told KTLA 5 News that it would be inappropriate to accept the money.

"We do not want the money from the strip club," Aguirre told KTLA. "We do need the money, but we will go some other avenue."

The league is now hoping other, more family-friendly businesses will offer donations. In the long term Aguirre says they hope to raise $65,000 to build a snack shack that would cover most of the league's expenses. read more

It was money being donated by a legitimate business. They were not asking the kids to wear their names. I think they are being very narrow minded.

Guess the stripper umps are canceled too. Bummer for those kids, and the dads that were going to go too. I am sure attendance would of definitely been up, well may be not, but something would of been up, that's for sure....
