Dentist charged with offensive touching of young patient

A Sussex County dentist has been charged with offensive touching of an 8-year-old patient who began screaming after a medical procedure, state police said today.

The incident occurred about 10 a.m. Wednesday at the office of Dr. Bruce Fisher, First State Oral Surgery, in the 33000 block of Wescoats Road near Lewes, police said.
When the child began screaming, “Dr. Fisher immediately covered the victim’s mouth with his hand and told him to ‘shut up,’” said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.

He said a family member who was in the room during the procedure informed police Wednesday afternoon.

After police obtained a warrant, Fisher, 44, of Rehoboth, turned himself in to state police today. He was arraigned and released on $500 unsecured bail.

The boy was not injured, Fournier said.
Any one else think maybe this should not have been a police matter?

Ewww, Honest to God, when I was about 12(?) and was having something done under sedation, I thought, I'll never know for sure, that the dentist touched my budding breasts. No lie, I told my Mom, but because I had been sedated and because of the era, no complaint was made. BUT - Bless Mom, we changed dentists just in case. This was the late 50's early 60's and that just wasn't talked about. In hindsight, he probably just wiped something on the paper bib but the fact that my Mom took it seriously will always be remembered. Better safe than sorry.

Am I missing something here? Someone was in the room with them, yet this sicko was still able to touch a kid. WTF was the "family member" doing? Why didn't the "family member" freak out when eh covered the kids mouth and told the kid to shut up. I would have started landing haymakers, if that was anyone I cared about. Forget the police, that guy would of been bloody and in need of an ambulance.

I need a lot more information than this story provides. It poses more questions than it answers. On its surface the matter seems to be much ado about nothing, but, on the other hand, the Delaware State Police are not in the habit of obtaining arrest warrants for no reason.

First, on what basis did the police obtain their warrant? Police agencies don’t obtain warrants simply because someone calls them and complains. There must be probable cause or, at the least, a credible threat of imminent danger to innocent people.

This incident happened at 10AM or so; but the relative didn’t call the police until the afternoon. At what time? Did the police interview other witnesses and/or speak to the dentist before obtaining the warrant?

Something doesn’t ring true. The Delaware State Police had to feel that there was probable cause for the issuing of an arrest warrant and a judge, at some level, had to agree.

There are a lot of Questions here Joe. $500 unsecured bail seems to say the Judge didn't think there was a major crime involved.

The Dentist will be a fool doing it in front of parents in the room!!! I think is all side effect of Brady horror case...hopefully, everyone to it right so it won't destroy someone's reputation if the it prove to be exaggeration from the kid and parents...
