A few years back I also got a high test result but since I am reluctant to start taking pills for the rest of my life as the first response and I kinda assume I'm responsible for most of my reality, I told my doc that I wanted to try to change my end of the equation before just popping pills.

I really changed my diet (to essentially a vegetarian model-- at least when I'm at home) and after a month, I had another test that showed a dramatic reduction even after that short time. So much for my being able to blame my parents! I love food and cooking so I have figured out how to eat stuff I really like and still maintain a (mostly) VERY low cholesterol intake. I also recognize that this formula is not for everyone-- especially those whose condition seems hereditary and not diet-based.

    Re: Got cholesterol?

So many things affect it, until I stopped taking hormones my count was pretty good with the good cholesterol being much higher than the bad stuff. Then the scare about HRT was all over the place and I stopped taking them. Within a year my cholesterol AND blood pressure (used to be 110 over 60 or so) both went up. Now, for the past 8 years or so I have been taking medicine for both and all levels are once again back to normal. I can only think it was the hormones that kept things on an even keel. I had to have all the baby making equipment taken out when I was 40 so I went on HRT to keep ME on an even keel.
Some people have cats and go on to lead perfectly normal lives.
