SELBYVILLE, Del.– Delaware State Police detectives have arrested a Fenwick Island man accused of breaking into a home in Selbyville after falling out of a canoe on Friday. A second man who fell out of the same canoe remains missing.

Police said detectives arrested 20-year-old Matthew Bullen of Fenwick Island after they learned that he illegally entered a home on Roosevelt Avenue in Selbyville after he had fallen from a canoe in the Assawoman Bay off of Fenwick Island on Friday, March 2.
According to police, Bullen and 23-year-old Nicholas R. Townsend of Ocean City, Md., had fallen from the canoe at approximately 4 a.m. Bullen was able to reach the shore; however, Townsend has not been located. Investigators said that after reaching the shore, Bullen went to the Roosevelt Avenue home where he then used a brick to smash out a window. He then entered the home and changed into dry clothes before responding to his own home where he reported the incident to his roommate, police said.
According to police, the canoe in which Bullen and Townsend had been riding in had been stolen from a home located on Monroe Avenue in Fenwick Island.

Following his arrest, Bullen was charged with second-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, theft under $1,500 where a victim is 62 years of age or older, criminal mischief under $1,000 and theft under $1,500. He was ordered held in the Department of Corrections for lack of bail.
