An 18-year-old and his 15-year-old brother are facing attempted first-degree murder charges following a shooting in Bear on Tuesday night that left a 19-year-old acquaintance critically wounded, police said.
Shawn M. Kadel, 18, and Justin Kadel, 15, also are each charged with possession of a firearm during a felony and conspiracy in the shooting, which New Castle County police spokesman Cpl. John Weglarz Sr. said may have been drug-related.
The shooting occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of Apple Chase Apartments, in the 2200 block of Ashkirk Drive.
Witnesses told police that a black SUV was parked behind a dark green Mitsubishi Eclipse in the parking lot and they saw a teen with blonde hair arguing with someone who police said was a 19-year-old woman. Police said in court records that she was described by some witnesses as a male because her hair is closely cropped in a "fade" style.
