Delaware Police Officer Slightly Injured In Struggle



NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - A New Castle County Police officer was slight injured when she struggled to pull a driver from a car surrounded by flames. It happened about 6:50 p.m. Saturday near Delcastle Recreational Park. Police say Officer First Class Maura Schultz was told about a fire near the tennis courts. Schultz saw an occupied pickup truck in the flames. Officers say when Schultz told the man in the truck to get out, he refused. Police say Schultz tried pulling the man from the truck, but he held onto to the door handle. A passer-by helped the officer pull the man from the truck. Schultz sustained a minor hand injury. The man in the truck, 54-year-old Bryan Lenker of Wilmington, has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and other offenses.
