MySpace Page May Have Been Suspect's

OLATHE, Kan. -- Amid mentions of family, a love of fast cars and interests in reading and painting, a MySpace page that appears to be that of a man accused of kidnapping and killing a teenager contains some bizarre references that turn more disturbing in light of the criminal charges.

The general interests include "eating small children and harming small animals," but also photography and painting and wanting "to own my own company someday." The author describes himself as a "Sweet Troubled Soul."

The existence of the MySpace page was first reported by someone who posted a link to it on The Kansas City Star's crime blog.

Myspace in the news once again but why? Is it fair to mention myspace when the website had nothing to do with the crime? Im not a myspacer but I do for some reason have a page there. Myspace could be useful but the abusers of such a place are bringing it down. What does TD think about the bad press myspace is getting?

MySpace doesn't seem too friendly anymore. With so many weirdos on the internet I wouldn't want my kids* to be going on there. I think it helps for parents to know what is going on and where it is coming from. MySpace was a key component to that article because it lets you know where this page was found. Of course there are always going to be people that abuse things and this is just another case of that.

    *hypothetical, I don't have kids

Being the type of work I did. I was able to put alot of myspacers in jail. Myspace may be getting a bad rep yes, but parents need to be alerted that there are dangers out there with these type of websites. If the girl met this sick individual on myspace then it should be brought up in the press. There are many more sites like myspace though and they ought to be brought to the publics eye also. Even google has a place that is inappropriate for children. If the public has free reign to make their own moves in a place then they have the chance to do the wrong thing if it isnt monitored. Thats why these websites need constant monitoring.

As long as ANY website has a reputation of catering to kids/children, the sickos will be there. It's not the websites fault. Just my opinion.
