Md. Bill Would Ban Smoking in Vehicles With Young Children

ANNAPOLIS, Md.- Maryland senators are considering legislation intended to prevent young children from being exposed to second-hand smoke while in a vehicle.


Senate Bill 559 would prohibit the "driver of a motor vehicle in which a person who is under the age of 8 years is a passenger from smoking a tobacco product or allowing a passenger to smoke in the motor vehicle." A violation of the bill would result in a $50 fine.
Montgomery County Sen. Jenny Forehand is pushing this bill for the second time. A hearing was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

It's a good idea but probably just not enforcable, similar to the no hands cell phone mandate. Hopefully parents are aware of how bad second hand smoke is and will protect their kids.

Colorado already has a law like this. And from what I've heard it is enforced. We'll see if that's the case in MD.
