A 20-year-old Lewes man was charged Thursday in a weekend crash near Harbeson that claimed the life of a Georgetown woman, police said today.
Corey A. Ortwein was arrested on charges of first-degree vehicular homicide, first-degree vehicular assault, driving under the influence of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia, said state police spokesman Master Cpl. Jeffrey Hale.

Ortwein was at the wheel of a 2008 Pontiac G5 Saturday night and was driving east on Del. 9 west of Prettyman Road when drifted into the oncoming lane and ran head-on into a 1995 Honda Accord, police said.

The driver, 49-year-old Stephanie L. Marvel, of Georgetown, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ortwein, who was not belted, was taken to Christiana Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A passenger in the Honda, Kara B. Leonardo, 44, of Georgetown, was initially taken to Beebe Hospital and later transferred to Christiana Hospital with serious injuries.

Ortwein was committed to the Vaughn Correctional Center in lieu of $23,500 secured bail.
