Dad uses Facebook to teach daughter a lesson

This video is all over facebook and I thought I'd share it here too. I LOVE how this dad responds to his daughters actions. I wish more parents actually parented their children vs trying to be their child's "friend". IMO yourJOB as a parent is to BE a parent. It's not always warm fuzzies and fun.
A 15-year-old puts up a Facebook post bashing her parents for making her work too hard, dad reacts by posting a video response to her grievances on her Facebook page.

Chase, that article ^^^ and I use the term loosely, is a joke. The dad clearly stated that he has told his daughter when she had done something similar in the past that if it ever happened again he would put a bullet through her laptop. The person that wrote that article is an idiot. I agree with 99% of the comments people left. My oldest will never get an ipod again, from us or any relatives, because she was irresponsible and lost hers. We've told her she can have another one when she gets a job and buys one so maybe then she will appreciate it and take care of it. Not as forceful as this dad, but also something I refuse to back down on. She was massively pissed that her sister got a new one with more memory for Christmas, but my younger daughter takes care of all her electronics. And no she didn't get her sisters old one. She's 15 and she will be getting a job this summer or sooner if she can bring her grades up enough to be ungrounded. And none of my kids have lap tops. They share a computer that sits in our living room where we can keep an eye on them. I also have a program that takes a snap shot of every page they get on, including IM's. All my kids also know they will never have TV's in their rooms and no phones or electronics are allowed at the dinner table. My kids think I'm the meanest mom ever. I'm quite ok with that.

A little over the top, but you could tell from his voice that he was disgusted, and embarrassed about what she had done, and as he said, it wasn't the first time. First line of thought is, yep, first you gotta be a PARENT then you can be a friend to the adult you raised.

Trust me on this, they will thank you in the future and when their friends have kids they will tell you that they don't raise them as well as you did. My daughter tells me that all the time, bless her, she still thinks I am the epitome of good mothering. (A little brainwashing goes a loooong way!)

PS - My son once told me, when he was in HS, that he felt sorry for XXX because his parents didn't care enough to make him stay in on school nights and get his work done. No lie! These little gems usually come just at that moment when you are pretty sure you have royally screwed up their lives for sure.

I get to work with a lot of troubled families and I will gladly take this dad over the overly permissive, always bailing their kid out and making excuses kind of parent ANY day.

He answers some of those dumb questions in the response to the video.

Was anyone else shocked when he said he was in IT? I didn't know people in the south even had computers.

Good point, PG. It's like so immature that they actually get it. Hey, whatever works. I'm not shamed to admit that I will sink to my kids level to drive a point home. It definitely throws them off.

He did say that this was her second time and the next time would be much worse. She deserved it. Although, since the Dad is in IT, I'm thinking the laptop he used for target practice was a dupe. Why would he unload 8 or 9 rounds into a machine he just spent all that time fixing and upgrading?

I saw this on the news this morning, I had to laugh when they said the police showed up and gave Kudos to the dad! Apparently there is no law against shooting a lap top.
