    Question Dentist recommendations

My wife and I are searching for a new dentist (general provider), one that can do checkups, cleanings, fillings, etc. I have BCBS of DE so we can go anywhere, but I don't want to find the most expensive dentist in the County either.

My wife has a fear and mistrust (justifiably) of doctors of any kind (due to past experiences) so a dentist who understands how to explain things, and has a gentle hand and bedside manner is important. Keeping a patient relaxed (or even asleep LOL) is a primary necessity.

I've found my fair share of dentists and their staff who are rude and unprofessional. I won't get into a list of issues or specifics, but let's just say that I will NOT tolerate certain behavior or comments from a dentist or their staff. I expect nothing less than professionalism and ethical practice from a dentist.

Anyway, I'd like to ask everyone here WHO you use as a dentist and WHY you like him/her and any other pertinent info you can offer.

    Thank you!

Get a Dentist that offers the gas! Its awesome. If you can't find one, mine's in Chadds Ford and offers it.

I actually look forward to go (as much as one can) just for that. ;-)

I go to Dr McCoy. He is located just over the Pa line behind the CVS at route 1 and 322 in Concordville Pa.

The staff there is friendly, professionable, flexible and easy to talk to about any and all concerns.

I absolutely love them. They are very thorough, gentle and wonderful people. It's a small, family practice and they have really helped me get over my fear of dentists.

As for oral surgeons, I absolutely adore Dr. Lou Rafetto. He pulled a wisdom tooth for me and pulled 2 teeth on my son (who was pretty young) and we never felt a thing. He has a great chair-side manner and really put us at ease. He was all done before we knew he even started.

Daveindelaware, depending on where you live/work, we go to a wonderful dentist in Wilmington, James Baker Jr. and his daughter Ellie Baker are both wonderful, it's almost a family affair when we go, we have been going to them for a long time, well before Ellie got out of HS and went off to college and then dental school! Long enough to celebrate with Jim and Kathy (wife/receptionist) the marriage of Ellie and the subsequent birth of her two beautiful children and the births of my grand children, pictures are required with each visit. They are very reasonable, and Jim is highly regarded in the community. Jim also teaches and gives his time for free to help children get dental help. Ellie, newer to the profession is extremely gentle and up on all the newest ways to prevent ANY pain! I just recently had a crown (one that shows) installed by her and through the entire process not even a tiny pinch of pain and you really cannot tell which tooth it is. I highly recommend them. They are located at 1304 N. Broom St. in Wilmington, just off Pennsylvania Ave., across the street from, I think, a Luthern Church, but some church anyhow. Tele. 302-658-9511 Best wishes!

Terri - Great to see my recommendation is seconded by you. Aren't the Bakers great? I spend more time talking to Jim and Kathy sometimes than the visit itself. We have children of the same age and Kathy and I have grands of about the same age.

If anybody needs an oral surgeon in Sussex County let me reccomend Dr Mullen in Seaford . He did 4 impacted wisdom teeth for my son. I had a tooth break over the holidays and today he pulled 2 of my teeth. He and his staff really put you at ease. I truely did not feet a thing. This Doc even gives you his cellphone number in case you have a problem or concern after office hours.

Wilmington Dentist, Dr. Sattar A. Syed, Wilmington, DE Dentist

He's the guy on the left. Excellent and I hated dentists until I met this guy. No stress when I go now AT ALL! Anytime he needs to drill, I get nitros or I'll be ripping the chair apart. It's $50 extra out of pocket because my BC/BS doesn't cover it. $50 I can live with plus it keeps everyone out of danger.

Wish this came a little sooner, we just picked. Think it is some Professional something or other in Newark. Hard to find a dentist with weekend or some night hours around here. Let alone actually works a full day on Friday. Went there only because they are open late on Wednesdays. Just have to schedule it like 2 months in advance....lol Dental just got changed to Aetna DMO

I have used Doctor Deakyne in Smyrna for 35 years. He's managed to keep all of my teeth in my head so I must recommend him. Modern office too.

    Re: Dentist recommendations

I see Dr. Friedberg in New Castle - New Castle Dental Associates. He has been wonderful. He even discounts some procedures for me since I do not have dental insurance. I am also scared to death of the dentist, so I give Dr. Friedberg a LOT of credit! His hygienist has been great, too.
    Good luck.
