I'm pretty sure the festival is next week. St. John's carnival is this week and we are going Thursday (just so you know)...

Angela is correct, the Festival is this week.

And, no, I probably won't be attending - it has nothing to do with the $5.00 cover charge and everything to do with the fact that I'm short on cash and even shorter on patience when it comes to dealing with crowds, humidity and heat all at once.

If I wanted Italian food that badly, I'd stop at Cafe Napoli on the way home from work.

Bleh.... I'm working at the Farmer's Market on Main St. in Newark on the 8th, and the next weekend we're off to FL for my sister M's wedding. I hate crowds, too, so I'll pass during the week......

BUT, if someone wants to bring me a meatball sandwich and some cannoli to the Farmer's Market, out of the generosity of their hearts I'll be very grateful.

    I have NO shame

We went last year and that was enough of an experience to last for a few years. You could barely move because of the crowds. I got so frustrated that we left after a short time. I think it took us longer to find parking than the time we spent there.

    Re: St. Anthony’s Italian Festival

    I go every year.
My grandfather built that church. It's an exact replica of a church in Italy that he was familiar with.

I like the $5 cover charge idea ...it'll keep the riff-raff out. Q- is $5 fee for everyone, including kids? EDIT: ages 14-61 pay $5

I just love the Italian water ice with the vodka and a panzarotti.... YUM!

So, who's going and which nights?

EDIT: 2008 festival is June 8th thru 15th.

I haven't been in years. Too many people and hard to find parking. I loved to go when I was a teenager, but now with kids it's just too hot and crowded.

It'll be a lot tamer because of the 5 buck cover. I'm actually glad about the cover though. People don't want to get kicked out if they paid the 5 bucks, and didn't even lose any money yet.

I used to go as a kid, when I lived in Newark. I took my kids once when they were really little but between the crowds, the heat & the cost (not the cover) I just can't justify it anymore.

I can't deal with the crowds and parking. I think I'll make a pizza and crack open a few cold ones in the backyard!

I do miss the old festival. But too much goes on around that area now. I remember one night someone started shooting. They had to close the who place down. I was really pissed.
