Next it will be beer and then it will be people who party on weekends or people who have a traffic violation.

When employers can dictate conditions of employment based on your legal actions than than their only limit to controlling you is their own restraint.

This is only the beginning. I feel sorry for the next generation. We sure are screwing things up for them.

    I highly doubt it.

I think you're getting a little carried away on this.

question for the coffee, soda, chocolate, ice cream, weightloss pill, pain releiver, energy drink, users

if caffeine were banned, would you go looking underground for your fix?

If I wanted a cup of coffee I would find a way to get it. Banning ice cream would cause me to become a law breaker very quickly.

Banning caffeine would quadruple the homicide rate within the first 12 hours, and it would just grow exponentially.

I could do without any of those, not a problem at all. Although every once in a while I do wants me some Ice Cream, that is when it would suck. Then again taking away Reese Cups is just down right torturous, don't eat them often, but when I do, I eat em all!

Just the ice cream.... but I think I could make it myself. Unless they are banning milk and sugar too?

I was talking about this yesterday.... the banning of smokers. When one person in the room told us all how she will not hire a smoker at all and hasn't for years. She is a VP, in charge of human resources for her company. She just tells smoker applicants (if they ask) that they weren't the best fit for the position. I can see schools and hospitals not hiring smokers as good examples but I was surprised by a financial company doing this.

Her defense was that smokers get sick and miss work more often than non-smokers, their medical and life insurance policies cost a lot more than non-smokers but it's the smell that she can't get over. She said the property is smoke free and there is no law requiring companies to grant smoking breaks. So it is not an ideal "fit" for the company. She claims she is not discriminating as smoking is not a handicap.

I think this is going to become the norm for companies who are trying to cut back on health care costs. I can see smokers getting offered less insurance or being forced to buy their own. Also, obese people asked to lose weight for better premiums on their policies. It's not "lifestyle discrimination", it's companies trying to save money and succeed. Perfectly legal defense.

Nope. I've lived without it before, I can do it again.

Hockey I am sure she could get some of them to withdraw their application by saying we do not allow smoke breaks. 15 minutes after 2 hours, and then your lunch, then another 15 minutes 2 hours after lunch. We don't get any breaks, we just get an hour long lunch. At first it sucked, but now I like it!

I saw an article that some places, I think they were hospitals, actually did mention weight but they also gave employees help to lose excessive weight. The problem is that with any health insurance any non-smoker and someone who is not obese are cheaper to cover. My husband recently had to pee in a cup to prove he was nicotine free and we got a substantial decrease in our costs. Anyone who is trying to quit, GOOD LUCK! It's worth the trouble and you will (statistically) live longer, (of course you could step off the pavement and get hit by a bus), just watch out for the bus.

Congrat to you guys!! Quiting is a bitch. Believe me you will feel better. From my experience the urge will still come for quite a time but as time goes on it gets easier to resist.
