3 Del. apartment buildings involved in fire

Firefighters are on the scene of a 2-alarm apartment fire in Newark, Delaware.

Rescue crews arrived at the Fox Run Apartments in 2400 block of Squirrel Drive around 9:40 a.m.
Firefighters on the scene report the roof of the building is beginning to cave in. Crews have been ordered to stay out of the building.

Delaware State Police troopers are on the scene evacuating residents.

At least three buildings and 18 apartments are involved.
Route 40 east and west are expected to be closed in the area to permit use of a fire hydrant and fire hoses across the highway. source

    UPDATE....
More than a dozen apartments were damaged, some destroyed, during a fire Wednesday morning in Bear, Delaware.

Rescue crews arrived at the Fox Run Apartments in 2400 block of Squirrel Drive around 9:40 a.m. and struck a second alarm a short time later.
Early-arriving state troopers evacuated some residents as firefighters set up water lines to battle the blaze.

Some residents were forced out into the bitter cold in nothing more than pajamas and robes.

Of the 18 units damaged, about six of them were completely gutted.
Ryan Graves, 22, was dozing on his couch in his apartment when parts of the ceiling started to fall in.
"It smelled like a fireplace was burning," Graves said. "My neighbors always used it, so I didn't think anything of it."
Graves said he soon realized there was a fire and saw his curtains burning. While he managed to get both his dog and a 9-week-old puppy out, he lost everything else.
The only reported injury was to a firefighter who suffered a minor burn to the back of his neck.
There was no immediate word on a cause of this fire. source

Fire investigators say the fire at Fox Run Apartments started on the third floor deck, caused by discarded fireplace ashes. No, adults don't do stupid shit.

I burn wood as a primary source of heat, I installed my own freestanding stove and had it inspected by my insurance guy. I clean my own pipes and only burn hardwoods.....none of that means shit if you do not handle the ashes properly.
