    Keep your components cool

posting this for the sake of posting it.

i recently mounted my new tv above the fire place

i ran the wires to a media cabinet i bought using wire molding that can be bought at home depot for like $20. i did this cause we rent and i cant go cutting into walls.

12 ft. Cordmate II Kit, White-C210 at The Home Depot

cabinet i bought to house the components (xbox/verizon cable box/blu-ray/wii/etc) i needed it to be short to fit under the window sill, this one is perfect.

    Mainstays 411660 TV Stand for Flat-Screen TVs up to 42" - Walmart.com

i used to have a open air type tv stand that they all sat on...no problem

since putting them in the cabinet i notice they are getting a bit hot in there. heat can hurt/kill electrical boards and such that are in these boxes. they need proper venting.

so today i bought a cheap little USB fan from newegg, i got it shipped for under $14.

Newegg.com - Thermaltake Mobilefan II 80mm External USB Case Fan

this is a nice little adjustable fan that is powered via usb. someone did the math and it is rated to run continuous for like 10 years and would add roughly $5 a year to your power bill. so you can run it constant if you want.

most all newer tv components like xbox, wii, cable boxes, blu-ray, etc. have usb ports in the back. so im mounting this guy in the back of the cabinet and plugging into one of them, done deal, cool cabinet, longer life for my stuff.

helpful tech tip of the day

*pic of my setup attached, this is before i got a flat power plug to use behind the tv to plug it in, i have it now and that random wire isnt there anymore

Oh yeah definitely not something you want to do with the original 360

    Cool fan though!
