Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives To Re-Examine Death Of Actress Natalie Wood

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The mysterious death of actress Natalie Wood is being re-examined.

More details will be announced Friday at a press conference in Los Angeles.

Natalie Wood Wagner — married at the time for the second time to actor Robert Wagner — died on November 29, 1981.

She drowned — while boating with Wagner and actor Christopher Walken — off the Isthmus of Catalina Island. Her death was investigated at the time and ruled an accident by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Wood’s sister, Lana, asked for the case to be re-opened last March.

When her body was found, Wood was wearing a parka and it was believed at the time she fell overboard and the parka filled with water and caused her to drown.

Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives said they were recently contacted by “persons who stated they had additional information about the Natalie Wood Wagner drowning.”

Due to the additional info, detectives have decided to re-open the case.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Lieutenant Corina at (323) 890-5641.

If you prefer to provide information Anonymously, you may call “Crime Stoppers” by dialing (800) 222-TIPS (8477), texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or by using the website http;//lacrimestoppers.org

Sounds like a script for Cold Case. I thought that went off the air.

Captain: Wagner responsible for Natalie Wood death
LOS ANGELES — A yacht captain said on national TV today that he lied to investigators about Natalie Wood's mysterious death 30 years ago and blames the actress' husband at the time, Robert Wagner, for her drowning in the ocean off Southern California.
The circumstances of her death remain one of Hollywood's enduring mysteries and continue to create renewed intrigue, with homicide detectives unexpectedly re-opening the case Thursday that had long been classified as a tragic accident.

A Los Angeles County sheriff's detective will speak to reporters today about the decision to take another look at the Oscar-nominated actress' nighttime demise in the chilly waters off Southern California on Nov. 29, 1981. Wood drowned after spending several hours drinking on Catalina Island and a yacht with Wagner, fellow actor Christopher Walken and the ship's captain, Dennis Davern.

Davern, skipper of the Splendour, told NBC's "Today" show today that he made mistakes by not telling the truth about events leading to the Thanksgiving weekend death and had urged Los Angeles County sheriff's homicide investigators to reopen the case. It is the latest attempt by Davern to change the official account of what happened in the hours before Wood's death. Read more

I was 12 when this happened, and even I knew Wagner did it.
