New Methadone Clinic Concerns Some Residents
MILLSBORO, Del.- Some people say they are concerned about the location of a new methadone clinic that just opened up in Sussex County.
"Connections" methadone clinic opened up in a strip mall at the intersection of Route 5 and 23 near Millsboro and Long Neck. Methadone is often a drug prescribed to prevent withdrawal symptoms in patients addicted to opiate drugs like heroin.
Those in favor of the new outpatient appointment-based clinic said it is designed to help people recovering from an addiction, and it will do just that.
"I don't necessarily think they're bad people," Colleen Dant of Millsboro said of drug addicts. "[They're] just people that have taken the wrong road and trying to get help. If they're getting methadone, they're trying to get off some other drug and straighten out their lives."
Those against the clinic said people tend to abuse methadone and they do not want addicts in their area.
"I think it's a terrible idea," said Brittany Strack of Oak Orchard, adding, "It's supposed to be positive to get people off of what they are on and it just puts them on something else. That's another addiction to add around here."
WBOC's calls to the clinic for comment were not returned.
This is in an area heavily populated with senior citizens. The strip is the clinic,a Chinese restaurat, RiteAid and Food Lion. Thoughts???
