A license plate number picked up by a surveillance camera contributed to the arrest of three suspects in robberies on opposite sides of New Castle County.
The suspects, identified by Newark Police as Shamar Turner, 18, of Claymont, Kari Benson, 20, of Glen Mills, Pa, and Demetrius Yancey, 18, of New Castle, were arrested for their involvement in a strong arm robbery of two University of Delaware students on Oct. 19th, in Newark and an attempted strong arm robbery in Claymont several hours later.
During the course of their investigation, Newark Police detectives became aware of the similarities of the Newark robbery and the Claymont attempted robbery. The victim of the Claymont attempted robbery had obtained a partial tag number and described the suspect vehicle to Newark officers. University of Delaware Police Department investigators were able to capture the vehicle on their video surveillance camera system.
