With all the signings in the off season they should, on paper, be one of the best teams in the league.
Why are passed balls getting dropped? Why can't we keep from fumbling? Why can the defense make tackles instead of trying to make the big hit that gets them on Sportscenter.

Opinions vary on this; this is mine...
The way this team, or any other team for that matter, has executed on the field is a combined function of player inferiority and second-rate coaching. On-paper greatness does not win championships; it takes on-field prowess to do this, even when sports prognosticators have already anointed the on-paper team a defacto Super Bowl winner.
Right now, the most positive thing I can say about the Eagles is that they can PROBABLY—the emphasis is on probably—beat any mediocre Pop Warner football team in the United States. But, at the rate they’re going, I’ll probably have to re-assess this in a couple of more weeks.
While this team currently wallows in myriad problems, the most serious is super-inflated egos, the largest of which belongs to the head coach, Andy Reid. He started on the down slope of his obsolescence curve around 2005 and has attained terminal velocity as he plummets toward its bottom. It’s time for him to leave the premises.
GOOD coaches know how to soothe individual egos without diminishing the contributions of the non-superstars. Their teams are cohesive, consistently good. They’re not great, but good enough to win the big one from time-to-time. However, Andy Reid was absent too many times during his enrollment in head-coaching school.
GREAT coaches, on the other hand, not only know how to soothe myriad individual egos, they know how to meld those egos into a positive, huge aggregate TEAM ego and win it all on a consistent basis. During his many absences above, he completely missed this lecture series altogether.
As for the karma theory concerning the team signing Michael Vick, I understand the frustration and sheer anger on the part of many people. However, Michael Vick isn’t the culprit in this team’s horrible on-field execution.
What he did relative to dog fighting and the killing of dogs was beyond despicable. But, he was caught, tried, convicted, and sentenced to a federal penitentiary. He served every minute of his sentence strictly according to all federal guidlines—80% confinement and the rest in various release stages. And, he did it as a model prisoner. Also, since his release, he’s met every condition of his parole.
As for his recent contract signing, only $20-million is guaranteed and all of that will go to the bankruptcy court to satisfy the conditions of his bankruptcy petition. Once this has been paid in full, with interest, he then gets to keep whatever is left over—if anything at all.
Many people suspect that his stated remorse for past behavior is based solely on his regret for being caught. You may count me among the first to admit that this may be true, but it’s a trait of human nature to abhor being caught committing social and legal no-no’s. But the problem is that you can’t prove such motivation before the fact.
If he falls back into his former wayward mode of behavior, then we can pontificate away about his insincerity. And, society will have every right to cast him as a chronic festering boil on society’s aggregate derriere, whose future employment should never again go above that of a men’s room attendant in a public bathroom.

Oh, I totally disagree with that.
Andy Reid has won more games for the Eagles, gotten them to more playoffs, made more NFC championships, than anyone.
If "nothing" equals No Super Bowl Championship, then hey, you're right. I personally don't equate nothing to equal no championship.
My point is, the league has caught up to Andy Reid, and has done so over the last several years. His throw at all costs, speed over size, timing over physical play, philosophy...has just been proven wrong. He's an offensive philosopher that had his ass bailed out of the fire for years because he had a defensive genius in Jim Johnson, and a game breaker like Brian Westbrook. Now he has neither. He has to survive on what he teaches. And you see the results.
I respect Andy Reid. I've had many happy seasons of football with him at the helm. But it's time for him to go.

Well, the Eagles 2011 season is all but officially over. Feels like before it even began.
The 3-5 Eagles would need to finish the year 7-1 over the final 8 games to have an overall record of 10-6 and a shot at the wildcard.
I see no reason to expect a team that's lost 5 of it's first 8 games to win 7 of it's last 8.
And for some reason, it doesn't bother me all that much. Maybe I'm already used to disappointment this year with the Phillies. But, I can live with being out of the playoff hunt. Now when I watch the games, it will just be game by game, just to have fun watching the team. Kind of like the Buddy teams from the late 80's, early 90's. They'd crush the most dominant team in the league one week, then lose to Little Sisters of the Poor the next. Meh.
We'll have to see how the team finishes out the season. See what heads ultimately roll. It's clear that this team is an embarrassment, based on the money Lurie put out to contend this year.
Pretty funny how the Phillies and the Eagles where the country's top picks to win a Championship in the pre-season, and how things turned out.
Just the ongoing saga of the Philadelphi sports fan.
Edit: I suppose the Packers were the team most picked to win it all again. But the Eagles were right up there.
