Christine Lunsford started injecting a new drug this spring, a white powder she said caused her to attack her boyfriend with a knife.

The 35-year-old Wilmington Manor resident didn't buy the drug on a street corner. She didn't even break the law.

Lunsford legally purchased "bath salts," a powerful designer drug made of up to three stimulants, at a tobacco store on U.S. 13 near her home. She abused the drug for four months -- winding up in Wilmington Hospital in a psychotic state twice -- before she finally quit four months ago.

"It makes you absolutely crazy, like a walking paranoid schizophrenic," she said.

Federal and state authorities are now racing to ban the drug (already banned in 29 states), which is sending abusers like Lunsford to emergency rooms in Delaware and across the country in startling numbers.

Christiana Care and Bayhealth, which each oversee two hospitals, are treating about one person a day for adverse reactions, officials said.

A friend of mine was in Christiana ER with her daughter a few weeks ago when some guy came up and starting talking to them, he had a huge boil-like thing on his arm from where he injected it. This stuff is no joke

That is what the guy who killed LT. Joe Szczerba was on..... bath salts. It's here in DE. I still do not understand it. It's also wildly popular in the UK which has put a ban on importing the stuff but they are worried that people (dealers) will start making their own there.

Exactly. I mean, I could never inject anything intraveinously into my body that I didn't have to. But at least heroin and morphine have been around forever, you know? It's pretty well known how that shit works. Yeah, it's bad for you, but it's probably not going to kill you unless you OD.

the paper did allude to it, or the officers on scene alluded to it and were quoted in the paper....they at least said he was "amped up, eyes bugged out" something like that.

Seems like you could just go to your local kmart, walmart, target, bed bath and beyond, etc, and find them just as easy.

The street nickname for them is "bath salts". And they're peddling them like they used to peddle ephedrine (pseudoephedrine) (also known as Two-Ways, White Crosses, etc) at gas stations.

I'm pretty sure you can't actually buy this shit in Kmart and such.

This stuff is chemically made with derivates of khat and other shit. It's not meant for your bathtub, although that may be how they're being "marketed".

Kind of like everybody I see buying a plastic rose in a glass pipe at the Country Maid is buying a rose. Or people buying a vanilla blunt loosey are buying it because they like the taste of a good cigar. Knowhati'msayin
