We're always saved by the Carolinas. Always. Either that happens again this time, or she goes out to sea.

Hopefully that happens this time because that is actually a Cat 3 off the DE and NJ coast. Almost unheard of, but still 4 days away so lots can change. If it was happening tomorrow, it would be catestrophic for NJ beaches and DE's (not familiar with DE beaches).

It also shows a Cat 2 overtop of NYC.

I'll go out on a limb here and guess that we'll get some wind and rain from this storm, but that's it. Just like all the other hurricanes that lose their power as they get closer....

guess I'm not going to Sesame Place on Sunday

America is an idea, but it's an idea that brings with it some baggage, like power brings responsibility. It's an idea that brings with it equality, but equality even though it's the highest calling, is the hardest to reach. The idea that anything is possible, that's one of the reasons why I'm a fan of America. - Bono, Commencement University of Pennsylvania May 17, 2004

The locals down in Lewes are not taking this lightly. A lot of outdoor furniture going inside, boats and kayaks coming off the dunes and beaches, storm shutters coming out.

It helps that today is pretty windy down here.

As I stated in the Weather thread.... the tides have been abnormal high all week so there could be some flooding if it continues.

Lewes is a practical, well educated town.... I'm not sure Dewey is being as careful.....

Dewey is probably planning a Hurrican Irene bar crawl. Let's get a group together and dress as our favorite local meteorologists. I call Glenn Hurricane Schwartz!

We're supposed to leave for vacation on Sunday. We're travelling northwest but probaby won't venture out if it's super crappy.

    Re: Hurricane Irene

We're down in Virgina Beach right now. We'll be cutting our vacation short and coming home Saturday. Just to be safe. So far no one down here is boarding anything up or making preperations as far as I can see. Which I really can't understand. From the looks of the ocean it's gonna get rough. We've watched the surf get rougher and rougher all day today. It is a noticable difference. We'll be spending the next 2 days on the beach, weather permitting. If the surf gets any rougher though the kids will opt for the pool. I'm parking my fat ass on the beach as long as I can. lol I just want to leave early enough to get over the bridge. If the cross winds get too bad they'll restrict traffic. This has been a memorable experience for sure, first an earth quake, now a hurricane. No wonder we only go away once a year!!!

I'll be loading up on milk and bread and ice for the cooler and all that happy crap sometime on Saturday night. Get the portable grill ready. This has all the makings of another Isabel. People up here were without power for a week after that one.

I'll buy steak and beer, as long as you remember your neighbors.

    Re: Hurricane Irene

Glad I opted out of the Dave Matthews Band Caravan concert on Randall's Island in NYC this weekend. 75k people on a ferry accessible only island during a hurricane sounds like a logistical nightmare.

I keep waiting for an announcement from them but so far I've only received a tweet that today's soundcheck was canceled. Hmmmmm.

I came up to Penn today but am heading back to the beaches tonight to get my kids and pets back north. Depending on traffic.... I'll prolly wait until late Friday night to drive back. I love being at the beaches for hurricanes but school is Monday and I have too much to do.

    Thanks for the updates Robb!

Actually, no you won't..... Mandatory evacuation will be announced tomorrow AM if not sooner. You will not be allowed into Lewes or any of the beach towns and all the locals will be forced out or to nearby shelters.

My husband just told me to gas up before I hit the resort area because it's chaotic down there right now. I'm hoping I can get in to pack, secure the property and grab the kids. I'll let you know more as soon as I get there.

Just a reminder here, make sure you have powdered or canned milk on hand, too, because if you lose power the fridge or cooler will only keep that jug fresh for a day or so.
